I just wanted to share a little tip I learned in the hospital getting my band. It may help someone not to Ha Ha! One thing they did when I was nauseated in the hospital that I NEVER would have thought of was to have me sniff alcohol rubbing pads. When I was feeling so nauseated I would ask for a bag because I thought I was going to lose it, the nurse handed me one of those pads and said to smell it. From then on, my mom would be shoving one in my face everytime I reached for the bag. I swear it helped. I had never heard of it, but it worked. I never puked, but the dry heaving HURT!!!! Anyway, every hospital has those things lying around by the thousands and maybe it will help some of you with your upcoming surgeries. I don't know about you RNYs, but you bandsters--don't try to drink more than a tablespoon or two at a time right after your surgery. It will get better! My surgery was on the 1st and by the third day I could drink a cup of liquid over a few minutes--still sipping slowly. Good luck to all!!! Susan

I doubt we RNY'ers will be so lucky to drink so much, so soon... I'm JEALOUS!!! lol... but wow!! That's an awesome trick! I've never heard of it, and I'm an RN, who deals with post ops!! Goodness, but we can learn every day, huh? Thank you for sharing! I'm gonna give Dh a stash of them before the surgery with the instructions to have em' ready for me! I HATE nausea, and vomitting worse then anything else! That... is why I was never bullemic. I would have been, I swear, if I could have handled throwing up. hate it, hate it, hate it... It kinda has me worried, since it's bound to happen at some point with this surgery.. hopefully it just won't be a regular occurance for me! And if so - well, hopefully the alcohol will have the right affect on ME too!! Thanks Susan!! btw - how ya doin' today? Are you recovering as you thought you would? Is it better or worse? Did you have fun at the pool last night?? (watching of course) and how's the exercise going? THat's another part I'm worried about - I hate exercise with a passion right now, because it hurts!!! But I know I gotta do it, and I'm determined to follow all my instructions to a T, soooo... I will, I will.... ttyl, ((Hugs))) K

K, I feel great! The exercise--with doctor's orders is walking. So far, I had my surgery Thursday and laid around Friday, but I walked a mile Saturday and Sunday. Today, I walked around a track at the park for about 30 minutes--not sure about the distance. I am not a big exerciser either, but I am hoping it will get easier as I lose the weight. I think the recovery time is one of the big advantages of the Lap-band, but you will probably lose a lot faster with the RNY. Unless something happens and I get an infection or something like that, I think this surgery has been a breeze! Thanks, Susan
