Topic: Still trying.....
I'm still trying. I did okay yesterday. I went to the grocery store and got some stuff that will *hopefully* help me through. I've just got to figure out a routine. A routine that I can feasably DO with the kind of schedule I have and the kind of personality I have AND is appropriate for a gastric bypass patient.
"I am a gastric bypass patient and I need to behave like one"
"This isn't just a phase - it's forever"
"These dietary requirements are NOT optional. They are necessary for survival and to avoid complications, including death."
These are the things I am reminding myself of as I try to get straight.
So yesterday, i had:
Venti quad decaf SF vanilla latte
a one egg cheese omlet
(then I got the shakes real bad because they didn't make my latte a DECAF! Then I got the headache...)
So I ate about 6 crackers with cream cheese and sat down until I stopped shaking. And took a tylenol rapid release gel.
(went grocery shopping) Ate a banana while loading up the car.
5 shrimp, 5 little cubes of steak, and about 1/2 cup of veggies (zucchini, onions, mushrooms)
a low carb yogurt
a SF jello
We did the coolest thing last night on the grill. Hubby had a friend make us a stainless steel plate to cook on. So we cooked dinner on the grill just like they do in the Japanese Steak houses. It was soooooooo good!
I bought some healthy things to help me stay on track at the grocery store. I got roast beef, tavern ham, provolone and lettuce for me to make some more wraps. I got a couple of different kinds of low-carb yogurts, lots of SF jello, cheese sticks, bananas, chicken, ground turkey, ricotta cheese...and now I can't remember....oh, I got some whole wheat mini-pita's. And some decaf flavored coffee.... mmmmm Vanilla nut... got some SF puddings....
Anyway.... that's how it's going right now. I'm not getting back on the scale yet. I want to give this a week and see what happens.
And I gotta say, when I was at the grocery store i wanted to get chocolate SOOOOOO bad. I skipped the candy isle all together. When i got in the check-out - those candy bars were SCREAMING at me....I almost reached for one...almost. BUT I didn't do it!!! I told myself "Self, you are a gastric bypass patient. Forget the candy - have a banana when you get outside." And that's what I did! I felt so victorious!!!
How's everyone else coping right now?
Hugs,
Pam

Whew Lucy... I'm so sorry you had to deal with all the pain like that! That sounds like it was pretty rough. I'll bet you are glad to have that behind you. Hey, there's a bright side: that experience is now behind you ... a memory.
You know, I had morephine after my RNY and after my PS and both times I ended up with an exruciating headache afterwards. I wonder if that's just one of the side effects? Either way, I'd still take the morephine in those situations!
That's soooooo cool that your pants are already loose! My sister had to go up a size right after her LBL until the swelling went down - so you are doing great! Do you have someone to help you out for the next week or two? I wish we lived closer to each other. I would come check on you and help you out. You'll have to take at least one walk around the house and pretend I'm there with you.
Make sure you take it easy and give yourself time to heal - but also get your walking in. AND make sure you keep up your protein and vitamins! And remember, every day that goes by is a day closer to being all healed up and the further the worst is behind you. I think you are going to be thrilled with the results and sooooooo glad you did it!

Thanks Wendy! Yeah, I'm thinking about complications but trying to be positive.
I am scared of the swelling. Of course, as I posted to Pam I don't want to graze again. I was eating way too much food and gaining. I think I was dumping every day, as my dumping syndrome is braking out in cold, wet sweat. I have been doing that the past 6 weeks. Now, no more! My pouch opening is tighter and I get full so much faster. Thank goodness!
I'm getting this eating into control. I have to.
I'll keep in touch.
Hugs and Love,
Lucy

Hi Pam. I just had to respond to your post. For the past 6 weeks prior to surgery, I was grazing all day long and eating all the wrong foods in larger quantities. I just went nuts.
I am so glad that now my pouch got tighter again with the surgeries. I am going to take advantage of this situation as it won't last too long. Now is the time for me to be on track. I get so full with the smallest amount of food. I am happy with that.
I don't know what it was; perhaps the stress of the upcoming surgery and my work situation. I went into my old behaviors and I know it has to stop. I did gain some weight back and hopefully now, it will come off again.
I have to gain control over my eating. I just have to!
Thanks for sharing. I can feel for you as I am going through the same thing.
Take care!
Love,
Lucy

Lucy!
I am so happy to hear from you! I was thinking about you for the last 3 days, and hoping all was well. I am sorry you had the pain problem, but glad you are moving around and doing well now.
Keep us informed of your progress and I have said a prayer for your quick recovery and NO infections! Keep moving and keep fluids going and protein to help you heal!

Thanks Deloris! I know that this will be a difficult part of my recovery process. I hate the swelling. I'm not going to weigh myself for a couple of weeks.
Hugs,
Lucy

This is a bad time for us. Especially with the holidays coming.
Yesterday I spent all day making Christmas goodies for other people and did not eat a thing, but of course you have to "taste" a bite of this and that. So that is what I did, all day long. It really did not add up to much calorie wise but it made me feel sick and then when I did eat I ate a Wendy's bacon cheeseburger (sans most of the bun). then 6 chicken honey crusted nuggets at home later and a couple of handfuls of popcorn smothered in real butter!!
And forget fluids! Hardly a drop for 2 days!
So crap, crap, crap! I woke up today promising to do better and get my fluids up before I end up in the hospital dehydrated again.
Good luck guys! We do need to stick together Pam.
