Topic: Gastric bypass patient....behaving like one...
Hey everyone!
Well, the Christmas party was lots of fun! I did really good with food while I was there. I'm right proud of myself! I had two scallops wrapped in bacon, two meatballs, two crab balls, a little mini-quiche, 3 vodka cranberries, and about four tablespoons worth of chocolate cheesecake. AND I danced, danced, danced. So I think I did okay.
I think I'm on a roll with being good.
Yesterday:
Yogurt
a jello
a salad with grilled chicken and ranch
Banana
1 and a half Alaskan crabs
1/2 cup pineapple cubes (FRESH)
Today:
I made everyone a big breakfast...scrambled eggs with cheese, sausage gravy & biscuits.... I made a huge bowl of salad....and i pulled some left over turkey out of the freezer and made a big crockpot full of stuff (mixed veggies, kidney beans, mushrooms, turkey, cream of chicken soup and sour cream).... and I made a fruit salad out of the rest of the pineapple and threw in mandarin oranges (packed in juice) and diced peaches (no sugar added, drained).
So far today, I've had:
1/2 biscuit with 2 tablespoons sausage gravy
2 Tablespoons of scrambled eggs with cheese
a banana
1/2 cup of fruit salad (just from me picking at it while I was making it!)
and I'm gonna have some of that turkey crockpot stuff (probably about 1/2 -3/4 cup)
and I'm gonna have some more of that ummy yummy fruit salad!
and I'm probably gonna run out to try to find a Lazer Tag set for my little one for Christmas....so YOU KNOW I'm stopping at Starbucks for that Venti SF Vanilla Latte!
HERE'S THE BEST NEWS OF ALL.......................SCALE'S FIXED!
I LOST THE FIVE POUNDS THAT I GAINED!!!!!!!! I'm 125 again!!! Woooo Hoooo!!!!
I know I haven't been "perfect" - but I'm so thankful to be able to get a hold of myself and be in control again. Those chocolate bars do NOT have more will power than I do... they have NO power over me!
Hang in there friends!!!! We can do this thing!!
For life,
Pam

Well Pam,
I am happy for you hearing that the scale moved! And that you did NOT have to have an in office procedure (boy am I happy for you on that one, believe me!)
I did soooooo good yesterday it is scary!!!

Hi Pam,
You're post reminds me to put the mantra up on a piece of paper in front of me, I'm a visual person and seeing it helps...I'm not going to list my food for yesterday, I don't think I could even remember all the side tracks (graze, graze, graze)...Need someone to smack me around a little bit...My one side of my head says "the scale still looks good its okay to have those little bites" (a sf candy here and there, a prune here and there, a cracker here and there, you're getting the routine) the other side says "girl you got to stay on track, it can't last like this forever and you've got to build good habits and keep them"...
So instead I'm going to list what I've had so far today and plan to do for the rest - let you know next time if I stayed on track:
1 pecan shortbread cookie ball
1 spoon grits and cheese (tasting my son's breakfast)
2 protein balls
10 oz cup strawberry hot tea
16 oz water
sf jello and cottage cheese
venti sf hazelnut & vanilla latte, skinny
rest is yet to come, its social night for my Harley group so we will be going out to dinner, don't know the location yet, we will decide after the group rides out to do a food drop for our local food bank...
praying regularly for guidance to keep myself on target...know the rules, just got to follow them...

OK, so I had a really good day...I stuck to my plan and had a good day ( YEAH!!!
)
Pam, I do hope that you get to feeling better soon...I know it's awful when you feel so lousy for days on end. May I add that I woud love to jump on your scale right now, mine is up 1/2 lb from those darn cookies yesterday. UGH! Hang in there and hopefully it will pass soon (the cold that is).
Anyway, it must have been a day for latte's because I also had 2 of them...YUMMY.
Here's what I had today:
7:00Turkey & FF cheese sandwich with mustard
7:45 Venti SF Vanilla latte (decaf/nonfat)
9:30 yogurt & apple
11:15 RB & FF cheese sandwich w/mustard
2:30 string cheese & 2 choc. graham crackers
3:45 Venti SF vanilla lattee (decaf/nonfat)
5:00 2 oz. chicken
6:30 4 oz. chicken with spinach
8:00 skinny cow (mint flavored)
I still feel like I am eating too much...any suggestions on other foods to eat to reduce my calories and carbs. I am open to suggestions.
I had to laugh when I looked in my profile it said that I had my surgery on 12/31/1969 and I wondered why it said that because that is not the date I entered when I signed up, heck I wasn't even born then...so I changed it. I need to upload a before pic and current one soon. My hubby is great with that type of stuf so I think this weekend I will see if he'll do that for me.

Let me just tell you about my day.
First, I didn't want to get out of bed for ANYTHING but i dragged my sluggy tail out of bed and to work. WITHOUT my lunch. grrrrrrr.... I swear I felt like I was moving in slow motion for the first whole half of the day.
I decided to get on the SCALE. It said 99 - I got off. I got back on It said 98 - I got off. I got back on - It said 99. I said "DAMMIT!! My scale is BROKE!" How's a girl suppose to know if she was successful this week?!?!?! Grrrrrrrrrr
I left work early today to go see my PS (almost 2 hrs away) for a revision. I asked him a couple of months ago to snip the little dog ears off the ends of my scar.... so that's what I was going in for. I get allllll the way up there...get in the room.....get in the little gown..... and observe all of the tools laying on the tray.
There was a LOT of stuff sitting there. Looked like someone was about to have surgery! Needles, syringes, clamps, gauze, wrap, chux, SCALPEL....back up.... SCALPEL. I got a little panicky. So I looked at my elbows trying to decide if I really needed to go through all of this and DO YOU KNOW those little itty bitty dog ears were freakin flat as could be? I was like "OMG what am I doing here?" So the doc comes in and says lets look at your scars.... and I said "you, know - I'm not sure that I need to do this anymore - look" So he looked and was pretty impressed. So we talked about the trade off between how long of an incision he would have to make to remove such a tiny little thing that is getting flatter and flatter all on its own. We decided together that it was probably the best decision to NOT do a revision. I thought he would be aggravated with me - but he wasn't. He was wonderful. He said if I change my mind, to come back because he stands by his work and wants me to be happy.
So, I'm putting my shirts back on and realize there's a big ole scale sitting RIGHT THERE. I got on the scale.....fully dressed....shoes and all......4:00 in the evening....I have eaten and everything.... It said 128!!!!! Last week, my scale said 130 stark nekkid with an empty stomach first thing in the morning AFTER peeing!! So I think it's good news!! I won't be satisfied until I get a new battery in my scale and see it for myself on my own scale....the one that has been with me through all of this.
Sooooooo FOOD:
Hmpft... I shouldn't tell.....
A venti SF vanilla latte (decaf/skim)
A blueberry muffin
A banana
An english muffin with ham, pepperoni, provolone heated up
A handful of reeces peanut butter M&M thingies
A venti SF vanilla latte (decaf/skim)
A banana
A side salad with ranch
6 steamed shrimp
4 zinc lozenges (trying to fight this cold)
I stopped at Giant and made a huge salad and picked up some steamed shrimp. When i put it on the table at home, my daughter said "Mom, I got on the scale and it says I weigh 98 pounds! That's not right is it?" Yep - it's broke.
How's everyone hanging today?
Hugs,
Pam

Topic: RE: I am a gastric bypass patient....struggling...
Pam, I don't know if it will help, because since I have been such a slow loser, I still haven't tried most of the things you gals have. Am still working on the last 4 lbs. But, to keep me on the stright and narrow, I keep protein things around for me to snack on. I keep a package of Jerky from Costco in my cupboard at home and my drawer at work. I buy the refrigerated cooked chicken strips in both my home and work frig. I also keep some low fat or non fat ranch dressing. I will just take a chunk of chicken and pour a smig of dressing and eat when I get hungry. And Protein bars also in my purse and desk. This keeps me from ever getting to hungry and helps to keep my blood sugar stable. I usually have one of these between each meal. Somethings fruit or the frozen "broccoli for one". But the meat stays with me longer. Also, the bonnie bell round chesses in the "light" are good snacks. Hope this helps you. I find if I keep good choices around me and keep my proteins up, I will make better choices. Sara

Hello All,
I've been lurking and seeing you all and assorted, posting about food...AURGHHH...I can so relate to what I'm reading...It seems like everything else since June 2005 we ALL seem to come to the same issues about the same time...
I still do not really ever feel hungry, but perhaps this is because I still really do not know what feeling hungry feels like...I did not get fat in the first place because I was hungry, oh contrare, I got fat because I ate it because it tasted good, sounded good, made me feel good (feeding emotions, was good at that too), etc...Most of you can probably relate at least a little on this...Anyway, I find myself now falling into old patterns, do eat much smaller amounts and truely much healthier food (pre-surg it would have been a pkg of hoho's, a bag of chips and a soda for a.m. snacking) now its pretzels and cheese...what I find I'm struggling most with is the little grazing though...I can handle a little real sugar, so go for 1 x-mas cookie or a mini chocolate bar; also substitute sf goodies (granted better for you)...BUT what I guess I'm trying to say is I spend tooooo much time grazing, just too many unplanned snacks, sf or otherwise and I'm really scared this will be my undoing...
I still haven't figured out why I keep grazing when I'm not hungry, its got to be a mental thing...What I do know is I AM NEVER GOING TO BE OBESE AGAIN...I guess and hope that by realizing/seeing what I'm doing and by monitoring my weight daily I will help myself put on the breaks when needed and force myself back on track...I wish I would just stay on track in the first place...
Thanks for posting, keep reporting in so I can see I'm not alone...get ideas, suggestions and help from my fellow brethren, and once in a while toss in my own rant...I'm looking to you all to help me, I hope some of what I post will help you...

I gotta get the chips and dip out of the house!
That is what I ate for dinner! Chips and dip!
Had cereal for breakfast. Ate a hot dog and small sundae at DQ and threw it up(not on purpose). Then went home and had my "dinner".
Then I ate a little cheese with wheat thin chips. and 2 pretzel rods for dessert!
CARBS are a no no today!
I also have a cold and it does make it hard to eat right. I don't want to think about food I just want to eat and not think!!
Keep chuggin' guys we will get it right again.
Wendy
