Hi Kerri! Hey, I'm Lucy and I'm a shopaholic! Congrats on your half marathon. I'm not ready for that yet... I'm going to walk on September 30th for the ASBS Walk From Obesity. My surgeons are sponsors for the walk and I hope my surgeon is there!!! I've posted separately on my update after seeing my surgeon today. I am a very happy camper! I've read and posted on your 14th month anniversary post! Congratulations again, Kerri. Love your pictures too. Hugs, Lucy

Hi Ginger! Thanks for your response. Shopping!! Yeah, I'm ready right now. I could shop day and night! I'm going full force with my plastics journey I have two names and will call to schedule a consult. Thanks for the added question on touch-ups. Defintely something to ask them! I've got exercise equipment in my house because I like to exercise very early in the morning. Now I got the go ahead to exercise again - so I'll be getting up earlier like around 4 am. Yikes! I say go for it, if you got a membership to a gym try it, you may like it Congrats on keeping us posted on your daily accountability Hugs, Lucy

Hi Wendy!!! YOU are getting to ONEderland, each and every day my friend!!! When it happens, you'll be surprised and speechless..... I'm saying a prayer right now and am throwing a coin in a special magical fountain in your honor! Forget about what your surgeon said. You will make your goal; he's not the one going through this.. How arrogant is he?? I hear you about the appetite thing. I got that way when I was feeling better after my hernia surgery. I want to eat all the bad things. I look at it and I'm like Homer Simpson with the drooling mouth! God Bless and Love you too! Hugs, Lucy 484.8/383.4/166.5/160 pre surg/surg day/current/goal

Topic: Update, Visit with Surgeon
WOOHOO! I am back from seeing my surgeon!! I lost a bit more weight!! Yippee, now I weigh 166.5 pounds. My BMI is down to 26.9. My percentage of fat is 21.9%. We discussed my plans for plastic surgery in November/December this year. I will go to see two plastic surgeons for consult. Plans are for a total waist to leg skin removal, like a circumferal lower body lift. At the same time I will have my hernia - secured with a mesh. Couldn't do that last month. I can't believe that I'm so close to goal!! Only 6.5 pounds left.... OMG, is this really me? I am crying as I am writing this post. When he examined me, my bones were all hanging out.... even my pubic bones!!! No wonder I can't sit or lay in one position for too long! I had a bone density screening too at the office. I'm within the normal range so I don't have to have the Dexascan. I asked him for an OB/Gyne referral too because I haven't been to one in (I'm ashamed to say it because I'm a nurse) 22 years! That's because of being SMO, I didn't want to go! I will be going in the next few months. I can exercise again with no restrictions. I have to admit that I started to exercise this year on the Tony Little Gazelle Rider... but slowly. Now I can start my elliptical again. WOW, life is grand! I'm going to hang in there with my job for now since I will be having surgery soon. As Kerri said, the love and support on this board is the best! When I need help, and I did and will, you were here for me, getting me back on track. That's what it's all about. Love you all!! Hugs and kisses Lucy 484.8/383.4/166.5/160 pre-surg/surg day/current/goal I will get on my plastic consults soon because of the scheduling for the end of the year. Many people cram in their surgeries because of the insurance deductibles!

Hi Kerri! WOW, I checked out your profile and you look marvelous!! I love the beautiful picture with all the tulips. Happy 14th month anniversary! Yes, it has been a wonderful and interesting journey. Life is so much better now. All the things we can do that we couldn't before. The clothes we are wearing and our self-esteem is high! There are many times that I've cried over the realization of what I did to myself all those wasted years. That makes me appreciate what I have now and to make each and every day special. I can tell in your words how happy you are to be able to be active again; all those things add up! Normal people don't have a clue as to what we've been going through in our life. Although your weight loss has slowed down, you will make it to goal! You've accomplished so much this past year and 2 months. Remember where you started at and now look at you!! Again congratulations my friend! I got to say that I love this group of people... Can't do it without you. You make the impossible seem possible and I hope that I can do that for you too! Junebugs are great!!! Hugs, Lucy

Topic: RE: CARBS vs SUGAR
Do a Google search on Gycemic Index. You can also check out http://www.glycemicindex.com/. A couple things to consider for people who have had an RNY: - High GI carbs (like those that contain sugar) are now passing through a pouch directly into the small intestine and being absorbed more quickly. This results in spikes in your blood sugar level which causes spikes in your insulin levels. Resulting blood flow to the small intestine to deal with this also results in cramping and/or dumping in some. The net absoption level will be close to if not 100% (same as before WLS). - Low GI carbs (like high fiber foods) are digested more slowly will have a tendency to pass through to the large intestine undigested (as you have less small intestine). In excess, this will cause gas, bloating, and/or diarrhea, which is the same for any undigested foods (i.e. fats, lactose, sugar alcohols, etc.). The resulting net absoption level for low GI carbs will tend to be less for people who have had WLS (bypass). Anyway, I check for carbs and sugar (as well as fiber and sugar alcohols). There is really no significant differences between the moderate to high GI foods as far as your body's ability to absorb, use, or store it. Although, there are some advantages to avoiding the high GI carbs (see the above link on the affects of insulin). Jim

You're so sweet, Wendy! You are a huge part of this board, and are a wonderful support to everyone! I think you should go back and finish your degree if it's something that's important to you to do. One of my proudest moments in life, was walking across the stage to receive my Master's Degree. It was a hoot! When I talk about going back to school, I'm talking about teaching~ my class of 3rd graders. My husband teaches 2nd grade, too. I love teaching, but I absolutely adore having my summers off. Since DH and I commute to work, it's amazing to have 2 1/2 months off to play, and get things done around the house, and exercise~ not fight the unbelievable southern california traffic! Ughhhh!!! You're conquering your weight issues...who knows what the next challenge will be for you? Maybe you'll be posting a pic in your cap and gown next? Love ya, Kerri

Topic: Countdown to Onederland!
Ok people, As of this AM I am 9 lbs from Onederland. I am having a hard time with the fact that I still have those stupid 9lbs and absolutely can't wait to cross that corridor. I have lost rather quickly this month as some of you know due to illness, however the antibiotics and my appetite have kicked in full force and I am really having a freak out here. So let's all say a prayer and throw a coin in a fountain on my behalf and get me through this next major hurdle. I think I can calm down once I am there. It did not help having my surgeon tell me I would never reach my goal weight! I was so mad at him. He said most people NEVER achieve their goal weight. Well I am stubborn and want to go back to him next year at goal!! Thanks for the love guys and wish me luck. Wendy
