Good Morning Lynn~ thanks for the encouragement. I have to admit that it was an absolutely amazing feeling to go across that finish line. My legs were hurting so badly, though, that all I could think about was getting some water in me and sitting down!
I'm hoping that if I still keep doing some 5K's, it will keep me motivated and going out walking. Do you run your 10K's or walk? During the race I did a 4:1 ratio, although usually I do a 3:1 if it's a shorter walk. (3 min of walking to 1 min of running). With fall here, I am wanting to nest indoors, so I feel your pain in wanting to slack off! Maybe you could find one more race to do before winter really sets in?
Let me know if there's any way I can support you with this! I know that I needed cheerleaders to help me on the way.
Have a great day!
Hugs,
Kerri

Congratulations, Kerri,
I thought of you this weekend and I knew that you would do it. What an awesome feeling that must have been. I am so proud of you! I looked at your pictures and you look great. I need to find myself another 10k to do,because I have been slacking off a little and only doing 3 or 4 days a week. Now that I am back in school it is more difficult finding the time to exercise. But it needs to be no excuses. Anyway, that is off the real subject which is YOU DID GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Debra!! This truly was an unbelievable accomplishment for me. It reminds me, yet again, how fortunate I am and what a blessing God has given me.
Thanks for the support!

Hi Pam~ It's so good to see ya back on again. I'm sorry that you've been in such pain. Hopefully you're feeling better now.
Yes, it was a tremendous pain in the toosh that my ipod went out. I was soooo ticked!! I even have a "Kerri's Racing Music" playlist with all of my fun and funky songs on it. I needed a little Bon Jovi~ It's My Life as I was walking!
A Gu pack is a small pack of energy gel that they sell at sporting goods stores. Gu is the name brand, but there's Power Bar gels and other name brands. You can get those anywhere~ even at Wal Mart! It's pure carbs that you take when you've done over an hour of hard training. I should have started at about 5, but didn't. I waited until my body told me I needed it at around mile 7, which was too late. It couldn't kick in in the way in needed to to give me the energy burst and not be hurting. Even the second one at mile 9.6 didn't help. That's why I was in such pain by mile 12. My body was burning my muscle as food, not my carbs or protein. Oh well, I took a REALLY big protein drink a few hours later, after lunch and that helped. My legs and everything (except my ankles and blisters on the bottom of my feet) are almost back to normal today.
What a funny thing about the palm tree!!!!
I don't give them a second thought here in CA. Actually, I don't like them very much. My house is in a very warm area and everyone uses different types of palms in their backyards. I stick with evergreen trees and my roses! I am an Oregon girl to the core!!

Kerri

Thanks Carla~ You've done great yourself! I'm thinking that we ought to do a Junebug walk~ someplace in the middle of America. I don't know~ maybe I'm crazy. But I sure think it would be fun to meet everyone and do something positive!
Hugs,
Kerri

Thanks so much Wendy! We Junebugs really rock!!!! It would be so much fun to find a national Walk from Obesity and all go to it! What do ya think? I'm game!

Hi Shelley~ I NEVER thought I would do a 1/2 marathon~ not in a million years when I started my first 5K last February. I did the Race for the Cure 5K. It was so much fun to walk it, that I decided to do another one. After the second 5K, I thought it would be a great accomplishment to do a 10K. We mapped it out, and spent a couple of months training for it. Eventually, I just thought it would be very cool to do the 1/2, although I have no plans right now to do a marathon. We'll see what the future brings.
Thanks for the encouragement!!!
Hugs,
Kerri

Thanks Deloris!!! It's good to see you back on the boards again...we missed ya! I tell ya, if there's a 5K around you for a cause that touches your heart, I would encourage you to try it. Most people can easily walk the 3.1 miles it takes to complete one. It's kind of addictive, actually!!
Hope you're enjoying your life of maintenance!!!
Hugs,
Kerri

Thanks so much Lucy!!! I appreciate the compliments!
No, it was no picnic, but it was an amazing feeling, kinda surreal actually, to cross the finish line. I didn't have to use the restroom, but I'm not entirely sure that was a good thing. I know I was waaaay dehydrated by the end. Kinda nice to drop a few lbs., but I'm sure I'll put it back on in the next week or so since it was mostly liquid.
I'm now back to normal~ well...at least as normal as I get!
Getting ready for the two 5K walks I have this weekend, one on Sat. morning for a student who was killed while crossing a street at a local college and the other on Sunday for the Race for the Cure. That's actually the one that all of these races started with.
Hope you're having a wonderful time being at goal. How's the maintaining going? Not sure I'll ever get to 150, but we'll see. Right now, my body seems pretty happy in the 173-175 range. Maybe the race will give me a little jump start.
Have a great evening!
Hugs,
Kerri
