Blood sugar issues-help
Are any of you having problems keeping your blood sugar in normal range? What do your doc's say? I have had several episodes of critically low blood sugars. I have never been diabetic, It is hard for me to catch up due to dumping syndrome, once I am low. I have been eating small meals constantly -every couple of hours, just to stay in a normal range. I am worried about gaining weight. Help. My doctor did not have any conclusive answers, He even asked if I was injecting myself with insulin. Needless to say I am looking for a new Doc
I've not been critically low, but I've had issues. I've always had issues, (dizzy, light-headed, loss of vision for a few seconds, extreme weakness, etc.). Man, it does sound bad when I put it down on paper! Anyway, it's one of the things I've blamed my weight problems on. I do have periods where I have to eat something every hour to hour and a half. I just listen closely to my body. I'll usually have half a banana or half a fruit cup or 1/3 of a peanut bar, with nothing to drink for an hour or so afterward. I don't know what causes it, but I've not gained weight with it. I won't loose as much when I'm going through a phase, but ... My doc said to keep listening to my body. They really don't have answers to a lot of things, and blaming you is easier than saying "I don't know". I hope this works itself out for you, or you learn the warning signs to head it off. Refined sugars are not the way to go when you're having a problem. I stick with the fruit (not juices) and dumping is not a problem. You might want to work on a schedule of eating some kind of snack every couple of hours to prevent the low sugar, making sure it's something your body has to convert (i.e. NO SWEETS). They just makes it drop further after you spike.
I'm not an expert, I just know what works for me. Bananas and strawberries are my friends.
Good luck to you!

I had this problem before wls, but haven't had it since....so i can't offer you any suggestions. But I do want to offer you my sincere thoughts and prayers that you can get it all figured out and don't have to experience it anymore.
From what i remember, the insulin shoots up high after a high sugar (or high carbs, which the body responds to as if it were sugar). Then, your insulin is too high once the trigger is burned off. This will make a person usually crave more carbs or sugar - but also to have symptoms of low blood sugar. I guess I would ask if you eat these types of things? But I'm really useless on the whole subject.
I just really hope it gets resolved and you are feeling 100% ASAP. Maybe you could see an endocrinologist?
Hugs,
Pam
If you can tolerate milk.. milk is an excellent source to keep your blood sugars more regulated if you are having problems. It has protein and a natural sugar so it will sustain them longer. Even just a 1/4 cup here and there to help maintain will help you out.
I have two friends that have had the surgery and have gotten so low they dont know there name and are disoriented. Theya re doing what you are which is trying to eat small meals and snacks all day long. If you eat good snacks and healthy snacks the weight shouldn't be a problem. Try breaking up whatever protein supliment you use into many smaller sections. It is just a habit to get into and the protein suppliment broken up to like 3 snacks help. Small is the key it doesnt' take much to keep you regulated. Do not think you have to eat huge meals.. keep the same calorie level just break them up better and space them out more evenly.
