Okay had a post op visit today and my weight loss has totally stalled. 4lb loss by their records 9 by mine. So the doc fussed at me again because in january he told me to comsume 1200 cal and i probably get 1000 and now he say that i should be doing 1200-1500 because im in stavation mode i don't know how i will eat more food. here is my typical day and feel free with any suggestions. B: cottage chese and fruit, or egg whites and vegies and l/fcheese L:usually salad with protien and veggies, maybe and open faced sandwich D: usually some type of meat and veg Snacks: jerky, protein bar, nuts (which he said to stop eating what a party pooper) i am also doing 15 glasses of water a day and 2 isopures. Any suggestions will be so appreciated as UCLA does not have a dietician and mine at Kaiser doesn't really understand our post dietary needs. Thanks Monica

My suggestions would have been the nuts. They add so many calories quick. You'd basically have to squeeze in a can of tuna, plus something, a whole bag of turkey jerky, another shake and a half. Maybe just eat more protein and less fruit/veggie and it may make up for it. You have really great eating habits, so I don't really know what else to suggest. Good luck!

Hi Monica! Boy you DO have a healthy diet plan there. According to my doctor AND my scale, adding fiber is the key to jumpstarting metabolism. So what I've been doing to add calories and (can barely get 1,000 in a day) is to add fiber. I've found some good additions. There's Cracklin' Oat Bran cereal (it is DELICIOUS dry, eaten out of hand as a snack). I eat half a serving to keep the sugar down to 7 grams, which has 3 grams of fiber and 3 grams of protein). I also have Kashi Lean brand cooked cereal a couple times a week, which has 9 grams of protein and 7 grams of fiber I think (I'm at work and don't have the boxes in front of me obviously). I love beans, but a serving of black or pinto beans from the can doesn't add that many calories. So I eat Bean with Bacon or Split Pea with Ham soup (one serving is 1/2 cup condensed), and I don't mix with water. It's high fiber and 8 or 9 grams of protein, and the calorie count is higher than beans alone. (Again, I'm at work so can't tell you the exact calorie count). It's very tasty. Swiss cheese----"Sargento brand thick Deli slices" is 8 grams of protein per slice and I think it's 180 calories per slice. High calcium to boot. I eat the bean or pea soup for lunch (right from the can) with 2 slices of cheese and 1/2 an apple. The apple has fiber so that's an extra kick. Why did he tell you not to eat nuts? I know there's the fat aspect, but if you eat almonds, it's good fat. If you eat 1/4 cup you're getting good healthy fat plus a lot of Vitamin E and calcium. They're very good for you. My doctor recommends that I eat them for a snack 3 to 4 times a week. I mix salmon (the kind in the pouches) with black beans, salsa, spices, and a little low fat mayonnaise for lunch. Gives you protein, fiber, and the mayo add some calories there. It's delicious! Even better spread on whole wheat Rosemary/Olive Oil Triscuits! Just a couple of suggestions. Hope they help. Sharon
