Hey Deb,
Can I make a little suggestion. You should not take your calcium with your centrum chewable. The iron will not absorb properly with the calcium, and neither will the calcium with the iron. You should take your vitamin that has iron it it with extra vitamin C for great absorbtion.
I also never take my multi with iron with milk or dairy for optimum absorption.
Here are some hints from ehow.com
Calcium is needed for strong bones and teeth and for healthy gums. It is also needed to maintain a normal heartbeat, for the transmission of nerve impulses and for the proper functioning of muscles.
Steps:
1. Take vitamin C at the same time you take a calcium supplement. Or eat a food rich in vitamin C, such as an orange. This helps with the absorption of calcium.
2. Eat foods high in the amino acid lysine, which is needed for calcium absorption. These include eggs, fish, lima beans and soy products.
3. Take a sunbath without sunscreen for 15 minutes, three times a week. Sunshine is the easiest way to get vitamin D, which is essential for proper absorption of calcium. Stay out of the sun when the rays are strongest, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
4. Divide up your doses of calcium. It appears to work more effectively if taken in smaller doses spread out over the day, rather than a large dose all at once.
5. Combine calcium with magnesium in a 2-1 ratio - two parts calcium to one part magnesium.
6. Avoid taking iron and calcium together. It reduces the efficacy of both minerals.
7. Avoid taking large doses of zinc with calcium. At high doses, zinc can interfere with calcium absorption.
8. Decrease or eliminate soft drinks from your diet. They are high in phosphorus, which can cause you to lose calcium. High phosphorus intake can lead to calcium excretion in your urine.
9. Decrease or eliminate animal-based products in your diet. High intake of animal-based proteins causes increased amounts of calcium to be excreted in your urine. A high intake of sodium is another culprit.
10. Cut down on junk foods, alcohol, caffeine and white flour. All of these lead to an excessive loss of calcium from your body and a decreased rate of absorption.
11. Eat foods containing oxalic acid in moderation. Oxalic acid interferes with calcium absorption. Foods containing oxalic acid include almonds, beet greens, cashews, chard, kale, rhubarb and spinach.
12. Use wheat bran in moderation. Excessive amounts can interfere with calcium absorption.
13. Check your prescription medications. Some, such as glucocorticoids, can interfere with calcium absorption. Discuss supplementation with your doctor.
how to absorb iron
take your iron supplment two hours before and two hours after having eaten any dairy and/or clacium for better absorbtion
Hope this information helps.

Debra,
Thanks for the info, the funny thing is that my mutli (centrum chewables) have Iron and Calcium in one pill I do wait about 5-10 mins after taking the multi to take the calcium but I am not sure if that helps.
The calcium that I do take has D and I think K in it....plus other things....
Thanks for your post hun, I will keep this in mind....I also eat so much calcium in my cottage cheese, yogurts, carb milks and such that I do not worry about not getting enough calcium but I do worry that my Iron is not being absorbed but last blood work it came back ok but it is time to do that again so we will see....
Thanks again hun ~Hugs~

Hi Debra,
I take the same vitamins you do and questioned the calcium with the iron. I called the company that makes Centrum and they told me that the amount of calcium is insignificant to cause a negative affect on the iron. However, they did say not to take it with dairy products or extra calcium.
Yup, my calcium has D and K in them also. I take the bariatric advantage calcium chews.
It sure it tough trying to figure out all of the calcium..iron..vitamin stuff. Glad toknow you are doing well.
All the best, Deb

Deb,
Thanks for letting me know about that and I guess I should wait 2 hrs before taking my calcium sup? I take 4 twinlab citrate chewables that = 1000 mg plus 2 bariatric advantage citrate = 804 mg .....I am always chewing my calcium...
Do you take 4 of those bariatric advantage citrate? I might do that so I am not taking so much a day! Plus I am alwas eating clacium for breakfast so it is hard to NOT take my centrum with calcium....Ok I will have to work on this again...
Thanks hun

hi deb!
i don't know what to change about my diet, but the scale has been fluctuating between 121-123 for the past 2 weeks and today it was 123! i know that it still a good weight, but it is just a scary feeling when it goes up.
B-ff/sf vanilla latte
L-tuna on a bed of lettuce with jalepeno slices and shredded cheddar
S-2 slices of ham rolled up
D-2 oz pork tenderloin, 2 TBLS cheesy scalloped potatoes
S-glass of 1% milk and 2 sf mint milanos
i also took MOM last night, had 2 cups of smooth move tea, and about 90oz water/crystal light.

Ok you guys are so good i am proud. I am terrible at my vitamins and stuff. My bloodwork came back ok... but i think i eat a lot more than you guys do. Maybe that is why my blood levels are still ok. I do eat a lot of cheese so i think that helps my calcium. I take my chewable childrens vitamins 2 times a day and i take my sublingual b12 every other day at least. But other than that i don't take much else vitamin wise. Maybe if i start posting what i eat you guys can tell me how bad i am so i will stop eating and actually lose weight again . LOL i have been stalled for several months. I am down 115 total. But have only lost 1 lbs the last couple of months. I will go a few lbs up but then make it back down to my low of 229.
B 12 sublingual and chewable vitamins
1 slice thin french bread with grilled chicken, onion and peppers, moz cheese calories. 1/2 cup steamed green beans calories
1/2-3/4 cup chicken ravioli, 1 cup green salad
1 small apple 1 cup grapes 1 cup cottage cheese
1 suagar cookie
1/2 cup wild berry frozen yogurt 8 saltines
Calories 1365
OK now why does this hurt more than posting on fit day. This is way more embarrassing. I have to balance my food more. I DO not eat much at all during the day till lunch time... then i tend to pig out till i go to bed. One thing i have noticed when i get into an emotional eating mode my stomach doens't matter.. it is almost as if i wait my 30 minutes to have more room in my pouch. I did take a nice brisk walk for 1.1/2 hours today so that makes me feel a bit better.
don't you be embarrassed at all! that's what we are all here for, to lean on one another!
looking at your foods, it doesn't even seem like 1365 calories! i don't think that is a lot of food. the only thing i would look at is carbs. i know a lot of dr's (mine included) say not to count carbs, but from my understanding and experience, carbs will make you crave more carbs. when i have a lot of carbs in my day, i tend to be hungrier. are there any other snacks/sides that you enjoy that you can replace for the bread and crackers? just a thought!
other than that, i don't think your calorie intake is high, probably right on track for where we are supposed to be at this stage in the game. don't you worry about a thang! that weight will drop!
hugs~mary jo
