Slowest Loser from 6/05
I had my surgery 6/05 and I have only lost 63 pounds.
My highest weight was 340. I dropped 75 pounds before surgery.
My pre-op weight was 265. I am just now reaching 202.
Is there anyone on this messageboard that is losing as slow as I am?
I have posted my concerns about this on the main message board, but I thought I'd ask again here . . .

Dear Abigail - please dont judge your success by the numbers of others!!!!! You are shedding weight and thats the important thing to remember! I also get discouraged sometimes when I read others posting about how quickly their weight is coming off, but EVERYONE is different! Just give yourself a big hug and a pat on the back for continuing on this incredible health journey! This is the best gift we couldve given ourselves - think of how much healthier our bodies are now that the weight is coming off! Keep your chin up - you will get to your goal and when you do you will be so proud of yourself! Hang in there Abigail!
God bless you.
Abigail,
I had my surgery on 6/6/05 and have losto only 75 pounds. I was getting really frustrated, but I know it was because I started allowing myself more carbs, started eating sweets, etc. I was not exercising, and not drinking enough water.
Last week, I decided to lower my carb intake, drink more, and started my protein drinks again. I am hoping to notice a change on the scale soon.
I too look at others profiles for people around the same height/weight as me and see that they are down to 140's or 130's. I get depressed, but decided I have to change my habits, not just rely on my smaller stomach, because I had been grazing all day, etc.
We can do this, and we both need to remember, every body is different. But if we do what we are supposed to do, it will happen. It might not be as fast as everyone else, but it will happen.
Good luck to you!!!
Irma
Abigail I to am not a fast loser. I have only lost 97 lbs since my surgery and right now I am on a plateau that is driving my crazy!!! Just remember how far you have come from your highest weight; it is all fantastic. I also get discouraged when I hear of others who have lost way over a hundred pounds and wonder what is wrong with me but I have come to realize that my body knows what it is doing and I just have to wait. Hang in there. God Bless.

I don't think you're that slow a loser. You started out with a BMI of 37.8 or so, and you've lost 97 lbs. That's great! I started with a BMI of 40 and have lost 96 lbs. officially. (97 by my scale). My doc was thrilled with my progress on Wednesday at my 9 month appt. He wants me to lose 14 more by July. I'm considering myself a success! Good luck, and don't get discouraged!

Thanks for replying you guys. You have made some good points.
I have recently stopped eating fruit (I was eating fruit on a daily basis) and the last 7 pounds I've lost were within the past 2 weeks - the average for my monthly loss is 8 pounds, so I hope this does the trick!
Thanks again for replying!

Hmmmm.... you bring up a very interesting point! I have been at a slow crawl/stand still myself since around Christmas... I thought that it was the sugar free goodies, but don't consume them on a daily basis. I do, however, eat an apple a day along with some mixed nuts. I started adding the apple a day around Christmas as well. Now you have me wondering.... I may cut out the fruit for a while and see what happens, also! Let us know if this continues to work for you....
By the way, my best friend had this surgery about 2 1/2 years ago and was in your shoes about being discouraged due to EXTREMELY slow weight loss. She was very depressed over her "lack of progress" and was really starting to believe that she went through all this for "nothing". Well, let me tell you.... she was still losing weight at the 2 yr mark (and beyond!) She is doing WONDERFUL!!! She's lost over a total of 150 lbs. and, she is wearing a size 4 at 5'7". No one can believe that she was ever overweight & she is STUNNINGLY beautiful (also, no one can believe that she is 50 plus years old!)
I know that it can be extremely frustrating to see other's who have had much quicker progress.... but, my friend now believes that it was a blessing for her. She feels that her body needed to go more slowly to adjust to all the changes... she never lost any hair, doesn't have much loose skin... of course, she'd love a bit of a tummy tuck, but, she has no upper arm or double chin problems (like I do!).
I know that we are all different.... but, remember that this is a process and a lifetime committment. How many times have we all lost weight in the past only to know that it would be back & then some!
I hope this helps!

Abigail I think it is important to remember all the weight you lost befor surgery. Your body was already going through changes and has to play catch up more then someone who didn't. I had to reminded of that myself. Keep a focus on the entire number 138lbs is nothing to sneeze at.
