Little confused about Carbs?!?!?!
Is anyone concerned with their daily carb count?
Should I be concerned with carbs?
If you are concerned with carbs what is the normal range for WLS patients since we obsorb differently then everyone else?
Would we still stay under 21 carbs a day as Dr. Atkins suggests?
Thanks for your help!!!

THE rules set out by my NUTRITIONIST and SURGEON is to keep my carbs under 40 grams
I proly stay way under and keep under 30.
I am good with this from my days with ATKINS dieting.
I was told to eat at a MEAL ... all my protein first, then a veggie
if i had room few bites of a carb food, such as pasta, rice etc.
I barely eat carbs...i dont eat bread.
WHEN i eat carbs i get the carbs from the veggies and whole
grains
GOOD LUCK

My opinion is that we all need some carbs. I eat well over 30 but am very careful and conscious about not going too high either. You can gain weight even after surgery if your carb count is too high. I think most nutritionists would tell you if you are eating healthy carbs, you are in good shape (i.e., fruits and veggies, not pasta, bread, sugar, etc.). There are differing opinions, and that is a good and healthy debate. I used to be a very loyal Atkin's follower but have changed my mind somewhat since then based on a lot of reading and discussion. Do what your nutritionist says and watch the "bad" carbs. Jo
Hi Tina!
Well, my surgeon and nutritionist told me to get in a minimum of 100, max of 130 grams of carbs per day but they are supposed to come from complex sources such as beans, brown rice, dairy, fruit and veggies, with the occaisional cracker or slice of toast. I probably only get in about 70 though, except when I drink a Starbucks Frappaccino. Then I get in a lot more!
I have noticed that the less carbs I eat though, the quicker I lose. And they are so addicting, that I struggle with it when probably others aren't because they simply don't eat them much.
Good luck!

You've got a smart group of ladies here to listen to. I follow the same rules. Fruits and veggies are fabulous. Simple carbs are bad. And they do make you crave more - that's really why I try to stay away from them. I really don't have dumping, so I have to rely strictly on determination. I'll allow myself an occasional cookie, then I have to stay away completely for about a week b/c of the slippery slope threat. A MODIFIED Adkins is really my approach, I guess. Protein first, veggies, then fruit. I like to have a piece of fruit for breakfast - it seems to get me going without a rush. And the fruit takes care of my sweet tooth, too.
Maybe I should have had that "pulled", too.
Have fun
