This isnt working for me
Actually, it is working for you. You lost 60 pounds!!!!! That is really good! Have you ever lost that much that quickly before? Everyone loses at different rates so you can't compare youself to anyone else.
If you really think you are having problems, are you tracking you daily intake on a site like www.fitday.com ? What is your daily carb intake? We tend to do best when we keep it near 30 total grams of carbs per day. Are you doing protein shakes? Are you doing milk? (milk has 13 grams of sugars! per 8 oz serving with only 8 grams of protein, not really worth it in my mind).
Go back to your eating plan that you were on for the first couple of weeks after your surgery. That can help jump start the weight loss again.
Good luck,
Keetara
I started out at about 250 too, but at 5' 7'', I didn't have as much to goal as you. All I can suggest is that you look at your diet and exercise routines. Are you getting enough protein, fruits and veggies? Are you limiting your bread, pasta, potatoes and rice? Those are pretty much empty calories, they easily are stored as fat, and they increase your appetite. Are you consuming too many calories? Don't drink anything for 30 minutes before or after you eat, and take a supplements after each meal or snack. That's the only way I can get all of mine in with food, without mixing the iron and calcium. Each one interacts with the absorbtion of the other.
What kind of exercises are you doing: you should be combining cardiovascular (walking, aerobics classes, etc.) with strength training by now. Muscle burns many more calories, and your metabolism is raised for about two days after a workout. Once you finish with a cardio session, your metabolism returns to normal. How much are you exercising? I do 5 miles in an hour at least 4 times per week. And try to do some weight training 2x per week - I'm not that good about it, though. Are you remembering your supplements? Make sure your body has what it needs. And I don't do protien shakes anymore, since I eat more than I did earlier on. And I feel like they encouraged me to eat more. They didn't work like a meal replacement for me.
I'm down about 95 lbs. and have met my doc's goal. I'm still working on another 20 or so for myself. And I will be the first to admit I get excited about every pound now. I haven't lost much since Thanksgiving; maybe 20 lbs or so. I don't keep a journal, so... But my bloodwork came back great last week, and I'm feeling wonderful! These are the things that have worked for me, and I'm still plugging away. It's still working, just at a much slower rate. I still have all of the old food issues, I just have to think about my choices more because the one thing I want more that the box of girl scout cookies is to NOT go back to where I was before. I will allow myself one "cheat" a day.
Good Luck, and don't get down on yourself. Stay committed to using your tool. Check out the link posted a couple of days ago for the men's message board, and remember that could happen to any of us if we give up. WLS is a tool and a blessing, but we have to get up and work it every day!

I think I do need to step up my workout routine, I will admit that, i usually work out for an hour a day (treadmill, weightlifting, eliptical) Yes I still do the protein shakes beacause my appetite still isnt on track. Sometimes I hve a week wehn Im not hungry and only eat once a day then other times I can't stop eating. My Dr's goal for me was 85lbs so im 25 away from his goal, but I want to lose the 100lbs. I just feel that im never gonna get there. My weight loss has always been slow through out this whole thing. The fastest i lost was 20lbs in the first 2 weeks. In addition to the portein shakes I also eat the protein pudding and bars as well. I try to make sure whatever I eat has protein in it. I just hope im down the 100lbs by June
Have you read this thread.. http://obesityhelp.com/forums/06-2005/postdetail/8607.html?vc=0
Remember you can stall if you are not getting enough calories. You mentioned eating once a day, your body thinks you are starving it and will hold on to every ounce. Go back to writing down everything that goes in your mouth, at this stage 1,000 calories, 64 oz h2o, and at least 80 g of protein a day would be a good average. Just my opinion on it, from one slow loser to another.
BUT the good thing about being a slow loser is again IMO is our bodies have longer to adapt to the loss, we tend to not get that "sickly" look so many folks get when they lose real fast.
Continued success, because you are success!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello it's me again, Lawanda. Just wanted to check in and see how things were going for you. I too was on a plateau last week and i just wanted to share with you my latest diet plan. I started on sunday 3-12-2006. I have lost 5 pounds since sunday. I had not lost any weight for almost 2 months prior to trying this. Okay, this is what i have been doing. or protein drink if hungry or both (20 grams)
total calories for the day 450
carbs 11
and protein 93 grams
I wanted to share this with you because i have been loosing a pound a day. Also, the best way to keep track of all of this is to go to www.fitday.com it is a free service and it counts all your calories, carbs, fat and protein. You have a journal and calender to keep track of everything and you also have an exercise chart as well as a goal for weight to set and it tells you how much you need to loose each week as well as how many calories you burn each it has really helped me sooooo much. Before i eat anything i put it on the chart and look to see what the carbs and calories are. I am getting very knowledgable about calories and carbs now. You have to try this if you haven't already. Anyway, like i said i broke almost a 2 month plateau using this web site along with the plateau diet. Good luck girl. Let me know how you do.
Hello "S"
First I'd like to say "YOU ARE DOING GREAT! AND YOU WILL MAKE IT"
Don't let the blues get you down...The other responses are right, just keep doing the right things, the best you can - help your tool and it will help you - you're only halfway thru your 18 month "window of opportunity" and you're most of the way there...
I started with about the same stats as you, 5'4", 249lbs...Saw my doc this week for the 9 month check-in and he told me its time to start working on a maintenance program so my loss will level off.., I'm @ 134 and feel really good...I'm keeping my eye on the boards for posts from you and will keep you in my thoughts...Everyone's journey is different, your road may have a few more twists than mine; but, we are on the same road and the final destination is in your sight...
