Had my Doctor's Appt today....
Had my 8 1/2 month appt with my surgeon today. Here's how it went:
I weighed in exactly 104 pounds lighter than the day of my surgery.
They drew my blood and gave me my B-12 shot.
Dr. Anez said "You look good! You are at a good weight and in the normal range. You need to add snacks to maintain your weight - healthy nutritious snacks. Are you happy with your weight?" I said "Yes, but honestly - I'd like to lose another 20 pounds...but I'm not sure if that is really excess skin weight"
He looked at the bulge under my belly button and said he didn't think it was a hernia....he thinks is my abdominal muscles protruding outward. He said "I can fix that when we do your tummy tuck" (I thought - WHAT?! Dr. A does THIS?) So - I asked out loud "you will do the tummy tuck?" He said "yes, but not till you are one full year out." So I showed him my upper arms and told him that I really wanted them done most of all. He said "you NEED to have that done - I can do that for you too, but not at the same time as the tummy tuck." So I asked about the price for the arms - his fee is $4000 plus the hospital costs. It looks like it really is a $7000 + procedure no matter where I go.
I go back in May.
So, I'm thinking about the plastic surgery. I really really really want to have my arms done. But I think if I'm going to pay the full price no matter where I go.... I think I'm just gonna go to a cosmetic surgeon nearer to my home.
As for the cramps up the front of my shins... could be shin splints...could be a potassium problem. They will check the bloodwork and let me know. In the meantime, try to up my potassium in my diet.
That's it!

WOW pam sounds like a wonderful appointment!!!!
DO you lack in the B that you get that or your doctor
just gives that routinely. I havent taken any extra vit B.
DO keep us posted on the potassium problem...as we all learn
from each other on signs and symptoms and i would really
like to know.......

Sounds like a really great appointment Pam!! Wow, to be in the normal range will be so great. I am so happy for you. Way to go! I want PS too, not sure if I'll ever be able to afford it though...
Lisa, my surgeon's office says WLS patient need B12 and B Complex, something about the malabsorption. Deficiencies usually don't show up until 9-12 months out though.

Wonderful appt. Yea I have check many many places to get plastic surgery and all run around the same. I think I am going to have my face done first since I can hide alot in clothes right now. They said I can do that in April. Good luck to you and hope you find the right cosmetic surgeon for you. God Bless and CONGRATULATIONS!

Pam,
It sounds like you're doing wonderfully. Yeah, be careful of that B-12. I have to take a sublingual B-12 daily. How interesting that your surgeon does plastic surgery as well. I, too, will have to have my arms done at some point. I think my insurance will pick up some if I can prove it's a health problem, like rashes, etc. I know that I will have to have the total body lift, too, which will help with my legs. I am a pear shape, so most of my weight was carried in my legs and fanny. You'll be soooo fortunate if all you have to do is a tt and your arms!
Congratulations on your hard work!! How fabulous it must be to have your surgeon tell you that you need to add snacks!! And to be in a size small in your pants...holy cow!!! Awesome!!!
Congrats!
