8.5 months post op and the pouch still works!
I have had very few food problems since surgery and was beginning to wonder if I would be tempted to drift into old eating habits. Last weekend I found out the pouch is still working and will still tell me if I try to overdo it.
I went out to eat with a group of eight skiing friends and ordered a New York Strip steak, medium rare. With the excitement of the situation and all the conversation I forgot some of the basic pouch rules and started to eat too fast and not chew well enough. After only 3-4 bites I had to stop and go to the bathroom to upchuck. The first and only time I had ever done that. After a few minutes I felt much better but I had no more appetite that night. It was a very good reminder.
I did pack up the left overs and had a great lunch the next day when I remembered to chew well and eat slowly.
Have a great day.

Rich,
I am 7.5 months post-op and just went through something similar about a half hour ago. I haven't spit up in a long time and seem to tolerate anything except hamburgers. I had a half of a reuben sandwich from Arby's for lunch minus half of the bread @ 12:30. At 2:30, I decided I could eat the rest of it minus half of the bread. Four bites into it, I was in the rest room upchucking it! I'm not sure if I ate it too fast or my stomach was still full. But, I'm glad the pouch is still working for me!
How has your weight loss been lately?
I started out at 281 on 6/22/05 and as of 2/3/06, I had lost 88 lbs. I haven't lost a lb. since then and am getting concerned. However, I have never had a real plateau. The longest I've gone without losing was 24 days.

Hi Chip,
I read your profile and I can relate to how you felt with the weight and diabetes problems. Congradulations on your weight reduction and on coming thru the other health issues. I didn't have the life threatening problems you had but I did feel like I was standing in that six foot hole looking up. I'm so glad I went ahead with the procedure because it has definitely improved my life. I didn't realize how much until I went skiing this year. It's incredible how much more strength and stamina I have this year, compared to last.
I was at Durango, Colorado. We stayed in town at the historic Strater Hotel and drove rental vans to Durango Mountain (a.k.a. Purgatory) The snow was thin in spots but mostly great packed powder. I loved all the fun dips and rolls and the tree runs. We would ski from about 9:30 a.m till about 2:30 p.m. with a brief lunch stop. I was tired and a little sore at the end but some Tylenol at bed time and I had no soreness the next day.
Next week I go to Steamboat for a week and then a St Pattie's day weekend to Michigan's UP. That will about close out my ski season for this winter with a total of 10-11 days.
Have a great day.
Rich
