Im sure you have all discussed this previously, but since Im new to this board, I thought I would ask. December started my dreaded hair loss that I had heard so much about - its a little alarming to see so much hair in the shower, but its a small price to pay for the overall achievement of my weight shedding. Has anyone found any solutions to decrease the amount of hair loss? And how long does this normally last? Is each person different? Ive tried to increase my protein, but havent noticed any slowing. Is there anything else I can maybe try? Thank you for any suggestions you may have.

Hi Debra, Well, I'm not sure if anything really works. I have been really lucky in that I have not had the hairloss (my sister who had surgery in August has really lost a lot). I guess God knew I had gone through enough with 3 surgeries and 4 procedures in 6 months, that He let me keep my hair . I hear some people talk about Biotin supplements, but personally, I don't think there is anything you can really do. Just keep taking your vits and get in enough protien. The hairloss will stop or slow down in a couple months and according to my doctors office no one has ever gone bald, and when it comes back it comes back fuller and healthier. Sorry I'm not more help with this. And yes, glad to have someone else on my re-birthday! Debra

I had surgery on June 22, 2005, and my hair started falling out about 3 months after surgery and stopped after about 8-10 weeks. I had a lot of hair loss but was fortunate in that I had very thick hair. My hair is growing in fast and the new hairs are already 2-3" long. I'm hoping it comes in curly, so I don't have to get perms anymore. Just keep taking your vitamins, Iron, B-12, and getting your protein in, and it will stop. It's completely normal. Hi Debra, I am lucky to have lots of hair but I have had significant loss. I am using Nioxin Shampoo and conditioner and that seems to really have helped. You can get it at most beauty supply stores or online too I think. You are right, it is a small price to pay for the weight loss. I get worried though because I have seen many people who have very little hair left. Have a happy day! Gayle

HEY DEBRA... my hair began comeing out in OCTOBER...i had surgery JUNE 1 st. I feel some new growth fuzzies but im still leaving hairballs in the drain. I have taken the biotin since well before surgery. I then tried some avon volumizing products and protein treatment and i got more volume.... now i am useing the NIOXIN, is it helping or am i comeing out of this stage i dont know. ITS seems to be smaller clumps now but this is the time people say from experience it stops. I had very thick hair before and my hair is very thin now! HATE it but dealing. I always took pride in my hair when i was 300 lbs so this is a difficult thing. lisa xoxo

I do think the Nioxin shampo is helping. And I do have short hairs sticking up at my part line. But there is still lots of lost hair in my brush every morning. Subconsciously I wonder if that is why I've started eating maybe too much to have significant weight loss during this time. Before, at 305 lbs, it was one of the few things that was really pretty about me. Focus on protein and foods good for you. Thin body ='s thin hair? Not a bad trade off when you think about it. Kathy

This is my new routine to help stop hair loss. It has improved a lot since I started this. In the morning, I drink a protein shake. I take two supplements: Dr. Murad (Firm and Tone Body Pack) and Andrew Lessman Hair Skin and Nails (HSN) I also use a Biotin Shampoo by Nexus. My hair loss has slowed down, but I am still shedding a little. I hope this helps.

I started losing hair a a few months ago, I was lucky to have thick hair and no one even notices it but me. My dr. told me to take Flax Seed Oil, but that it may or may not work. She also said that she doesnt know anyone that has gone bald. She said our hair is 3 months behind our bodies so what we ate three months ago affects our hair now. It makes sense to me. I eat more now so soon, my hair will stop falling out. It already has seemed too somewhat. We will all probably see it slow down around the same times. Mine started later than some of the Junies, but hopefully it stops when theirs does.

I had surgery 1st JUne 2005. My hair did start falling out. Everytime I took a shower, I would have patches of hair laying in the shower. Everytime I combed my hair, there would be hair falling out everywhere. I had failed getting enough protein, I was thinning very fast. I told my doctor and she put me on Zink. I take only one a week. I take 1 a day, womens VIACTIV chewable multi vitamin, 2 a day womens, VIACTIV chewable calcium, I also take a B12 once a week. She wanted me taking them everyday but they gave me stomach cramps. So, I just cut bac****il I came up with the dosage that worked for me. I buy all of these at Wal Mart. I try to get as much protein a day as I can. I had my hair cut yesterday and the beautition told me I had lots of new hair growing in. So, it looks at though what I've been doing is working. I suggest you contact your doctor first to be safe. Good luck. Pam G. J

Thank you to all of your responses. Im going to my surgeon next Friday, and I am definitely talking to her about this issue. But in the meantime, Im going to try the shampoo you mentioned. My vitamins and protein are right on target, as per the program Im on. So, we shall see. Have a terrific Thursday!
