Calories? What Does your Doc say?

Hi Everyone, I've been lurking around on the Jan 2005 board and notice a good thread about how many calories should you consume... I track my food on fitday and know I'm usually between 700 and 900 a day, but was wondering, does anyone know what we should be shooting for...I too have notice a significant slowdown in the weight loss and am wondering if this might be due to a metabolism change because I'm not eating enough...Anyway, I don't see the doctor again between 6 and 9 months and not the Nut until 1 year out, so looking for help from the best support group around - my fellow Juners... Thanks, :^ ) Alesia

well, i can tell you what my doc told me at my 6 month appt. i probably average between 500-600 calories a day. they told me that is not enough. they said at this point, i should be at around 1000 calories and that by 1 yr out i should be working towards 1200-1500 calories. they said this is where i would want to be at for life, between 1200-1500. HTH! hugs~mary jo

Hello All, Thanks for getting back to me...I kind of thought I might be a little on the low side and you have all confirmed it...The issue for me will be getting the extra calories in something good, like more protein/low fat...I know I will be tempted to take the extra in higher fat foods, like cheese and nuts - good on protein but not on fat... :^) Alesia

Personally, I wouldn't increase the calories... Just look at Mary Jo's success... it is BECAUSE she consumes so little calories... We have the rest of our life to eat.... why CRAM in protein, enlarge your stomach, and such... Remember, you're not eating less FOREVER!!!! Personally, I have found it hard once you begin "eating" normally, to return to the WLS diet of watching what you eat both in terms of amount and quality. Good Luck.

Hello, I'm at 700-800 on most days. Sb @ 1000- My doc said that I dont eat enough. I feel fine though. I'm trying to increase it. You will be fine. It is funny............. I use to not even care and now-I dont eat enough. If this would have been true a few years ago then I would have been at my goal weight before surgery. ........... lol, Hugs,

Acording to my doctor, the most succssful weight loss is at around 1000 calories. To maintain my current weight it will, of course, be more. Best of Luck to you! Beverly

my doc really didn't have any calorie guidelines, so i sort of had to figure out something that would work for me on my own. i decided because i exercise 30min-an hour or more a day that i should shoot for 1200 calories a day. before i was getting about 800-900 a day and my weight loss had really slowed down. i've been at 1200 for not quite a week and already lost 4 pounds, so it seems to be working. My Dr. wants me to have 800 - 1000 calories. I average between 700 and 1100. Just depends on the snacks for the day.

My doc or NUT. have never told me how many to shoot for. I know I dont get that many and I need to increase them. I have some weeks where I dont lose, but then lose 4 or 5 the next week. I have lost 101 so far and I sure dont want it to slow right down already. I will try harder to eat more calories.
