Blood

Does anyone know if and when we can donate blood? Sharyn

i have donated blood many times since surgery. first time i went was only a few weeks post-op and i was borderline for my iron, so they didn't let me that time. but the next time they had a blood drive at work i donated and was probably about 3 months post-op. what does your doc say? mine says no problem, but some people on the main board says theit docs told them absolutely not. hugs~mary jo

Be very careful when giving blood. Checking with your surgeon is a very good idea. When I asked mine, he said absolutely not. Too great a chance of anemia. You may end up with very bad iron levels and become severly anemic from which recovery is very difficult. Keetara

I heard back from my sugeon. He didn't say I couldn't, but he doesn't recommend it. His reasoning is that if I were to become anemic, it's very hard to resolve in RNYers. Thanks for the input. Sharyn
