MY 6 MONTH APPT TODAY...
well, today was my appt and i saw the nurse practitioner. they had me at 80 lbs lost (i am at 82, nekked and first thing in the am!). some of the things we talked about today...
-the bowel movements. she really wants me to stop taking laxatives. she said to try having raisin bran or something in the morning and colace 2 times a day. start tomorrow and if no BM by friday, she wants me to call her.
-my diet. i usually average probably 500 calories a day. she said i should be up around 1000. she is worried about my health and protein intake. she says if i continue to not eat breakfast, then to try to have a protein shake in the morning. she also wants me to make an appointment to go see the nutritionist and bring a food diary with me.
-my weight loss. she was very happy. BUT, check this out! she says to me "you have probably lost all the weight you are going to lose". HUH???? i said no, i still want to lose, told her i want to get to 120. she said i would be too skinny and start to look "sickly". she said they like to see patients lose 60-80% of their excess body weight by 1 year. In 6 months, I have lost 83%. i don't want to be done losing, is that even possible??? she said i should just try to maintain. again...HUH????
-plastics. she said they like to wait 12-18 months. she thinks i may be able to qualify for the breast reduction due to neck, shoulder and back pain. the tummy she said they usually need to see some sort of rash/skin irritation and i have not had any. i guess exercise is the best way to go and i am going to try to start some sort of exercise plan. she said 2 times a week will be fine and if i feel good enough, i can up it to 3 days per week. how can i argue with that?
ok well that was it! i am pretty happy with 83% of my excess body weight being gone forever!!!

221/139/???
Hey- my love,
I'm glad things went well. My doc said that I may be loosing to fast.
I'm at 95lbs post op. He said that he wants me to be healthy, get more protein and increase my iron.
Providers say different things you know.
I take iron and my surgeon said............ take a laxitive if you get constipated- so I take a correctol at times. I tell you the remedies vary from cost to cost.
I really need to get more focused on excercise.
I have great and bad days. We will have to really be mindful that the WLS brings varied changes for us all. Health is our key.
Best Wishes.........................

Hi Mary Jo
You have done fantastic! Hope you aren't too discouraged by what the doctor said. I know that you are in a great mindset, and since you want to continue losing...you will!!!
I know someone who used Boraxo cleanser stuff and created a rash, then would go to the PCP to get it logged in her records and have photos taken. Kind of extreme, but it actually worked. I guess you have to beat the insurance companies sometimes!
As far as fiber, I have been eating Go Lean Crunch for breakfast and it is a great source of fiber and protein. It is a granola type cereal, and really quite tasty. (It doesn't taste like you are eating the box like some of those other ones that are good for you!) It has 9 grams of protein, 6.25 grams of soy protein, and 8 grams of fiber for a 1 cup serving. (I don't eat a whole cup though) It is naturally sweetened with a little bit of honey and cinnamon. It really holds me until lunch!
Have a great night!
Leslie
Well I think you have done a fabulous job.
BUT we should adhere to what the doctors
say they know whats best.
I think they were trying to have your
best interests in mind and worry about
your health. DID you mention the tireds
to them any?????
Well glad your doing well and i think
your 82 lbs is something to dance about!
GOOD LUCK
LISA
310/190/???
thank you, my friend!
i did mention feeling exhausted and also asked what my b12 results were last time. my b12 was 655 and she said normal was between 220-720 (i think), although for us wls patients, they don't want it to be under 300. she is going to check my labs this time and send me a copy. she said it may just be my food intake that is not giving me enough energy. told me i should have 3 meals a day and a mid-morning snack. i'll try my best!
look at you, ready to creep into the land of the 180's! you are doing soooo great!
hugsssssss
Wow Mary Jo, you are doing good, I can't wait to be in the 130's!! But I agree with others- you are going to lose more, no problem. As long as you stick to the program, you will lose until all the fat is gone. But for a loss of 83% of your excess body weight by 6 months is great! My surgeon said that he typically sees his patients lose about 60% by their 12 month mark. Of course that is an average and I would think that to be true of people who started out with a lot more weight to lose than you or I. But still.
I have no doubt that you will make it to your goal of 120, that is only 19lbs away, that isn't much at all. I don't think that at 120 you will start to look sickly, we are the same height and I don't think I would look sickly at 120! My surgeon's goal for me is 125, but I would like to get to 118-120 in the end, that would be nice. I guess because my best friend is the same height as me, and she weighs 118 and looks great. So I figure 118 would be a good weight for me too.
Good luck Mary Jo!! I'm over here in Arizona rooting for you to make that goal weight!!
