How long does hair loss last?

Hi - I know this hair loss stage is to be expected and some of you are probably experiencing the same thing, but my normally thin hair is looking BAD! I think I am even seeing bald patches. Do you know how long this stage is supposed to last before it stops falling out? I have no new growth yet. Thank you for your help - you're the best! Diane

well DIANE i hear different from people but people tell me when it starts in month 4 it should be done between month 6 and 8. THIS phase is driving me crazy. HANG IN THERE! LISA

it is driving me nuts too! my hair is pretty short, but i have always had pretty thick hair. it has gotten so thin! i am using this shampoo and conditioner from avon, and although i am still losing, i have noticed new growth. so hopefully it is helping! good luck! hugs~mary jo

LOL ok, so it is called Advanced Techniques Age-Defying Shampoo and Conditioner. and here is the little blurb it gives you: "Designed to boost fragile, thinning hair, the gentle shampoo restores hair's youthful vitality, seals in color and builds volume. The care-formulated conditioner moisturizes, strengthens and nourishes hair so it appears fuller, thicker, and more radiant. Each, 11 fl. oz." now, i also have Advance Techniques Age-Defying Leave-In Treatment w/ Biotin. "Help hair fight its age. Lightweight and moisture-rich leave-in contains Biotin to replenish moisture and fortify follicles, so hair looks healthier and more radiant. 5 fl. oz." so, that's what i am using. i hope that it is helping! my mom sells avon, so she got me all this stuff! hugssssss

Hi Diane, My doctor told me it lasts about 6 months. I guess everyone is different. I know other patients who never lost hair at all. So people say Biotin or the Nioxin vitamins will help. My doctor said it won't help to stop the hair loss, but it MIGHT I repeat MIGHT help with the re-growth. He said he hasn't seen any proof, but has heard people who swear by it. I am taking the Nioxin vitamins and my hair clumps in the shower are still just as large as when it started a month ago! Good Luck and best wishes! Ilyssa 268/200/???

I guess each person is different. I started loosing my hair around 3 months out and I think I am done loosing it. I haven't noticed major loss in almost a week. So I hope I am done. I have also noticed new growth. Have a great week. Shelley

I've been taking biotin and zinc but I don't think it's doing ANYTHING. My hair is normally thick so it doesn't look that bad but I notice it BIG TIME. My hair just started falling out about a month ago so I shutter to think it could last another 5 months. ~Issy 360/269/???

Mine started falling out big time after 3.5 months. I have thin, fine hair anyway and now I'm starting to see through it to my scalp. I have been using Biotin (2000 mcg) since before surgery and Nioxin the last three months. I don't know if it is helping, maybe it would have been worse. Still waiting for it to stop. I have hair all over my clothes. Yikes! Mari

THANKS MARY JO im gonna try the shampoo.... ANYTHING that gives me more volume thru this period of hair thinning and shedding has got to help. Ill get in touch with an avon rep soon. I been takeing BIOTIN for months before my surgery and thru now and it didnt help me to not loose. AS my surgeon says nothing you can do most experience this hair loss period.
