Upper GI...after surgery...Need Help
I posted this on the main board and the Illinois board this morning.
What can an upper GI tell after surgery? I called the surgeon's office this morning about an email I sent to them yesterday. Here is what I sent:
Good Afternoon. I just have a few questions for Dr. Fred and didn't know who could answer them. I was wondering how much should I be able to eat? Is it more than 4oz? Is it possible that my stomach could have stretched out already? I feel like I am able to eat too much and really concerned about it. I am now only down to 236. Is this normal? I am not sure why I have never been sick either. Just a few concerns. Could you please help me out.
She emailed me back and said I needed to make an appointment. I called in and was telling her what all I could eat and she said she would talk to Dr. Fred about it. She called me back and said he would like me to have an upper GI. Can this tell the size of my stomach? If it is too large, can they go back in and make it smaller? I am really worried now. Don't know if I should just leave things the way they are.

VERY interesting SHELLEY .....
I am not exactly sure what an upper GI can show them so why dont u call them and ask them what they are looking for.
I can eat alot...sometimes i shock myself other times i cant eat nearly what i want. I normally just stop eating, and i eat out of a babyfood
bowl...this way i control my portions. I dont eat slow and the only food as u know i watch my chewing on is with steak.
I am not sure what weight you started at you only mentioned were you are now but you are looseing right? I dont know but i would call them and see what there looking for.

PS :
SHELLEY! you have lost alot of weight and it shows in your pictures
big time! I dont think i would mess with things just yet.
YOU know only 60 percent of the patients with GASTRIC bypass surgery actually dump...! NOT all do, i have never tested that.
I think you LOST a HUGE amount of weight and should leave things alone as long as you fell WELL!
((HUG))!
your looking skinny GF!!!!!
(remember 25 lbs in my total were pre op loss if i didnt loose it i wouldnt have had the surgeon i wanted for my surgeon so i did this!!!)
Thanks Lisa. I still do not see any difference. I know there is but some days I still feel like I used to. I have gone from a 26/28 some 30's to an 18/20. I know that should be a big deal but it's not to me. I don't know what is wrong with me. Hopefully I will snap out of this soon.
I thought it was just me that could eat a ton! I have been doing the baby bowls and the baby plates. Maybe I have gotten used to eating off of them and now it seems like a lot to me. Who knows! This is driving me crazy.
I went down to 234 and then when I weighed yesterday the scale said 239. Whoa...big difference. That was when I put the scale away and I refuse to step on it until next week. It has been a killer to me.
Thanks for all the encouragement. I could really use all I can get. I don't have much of a support team at home. I have learned what they say about relationships on here. Either this surgery will make it or break it. I think this might break mine. I don't see it getting any better. He has become so jealous.

Hi Shelley,
Some days I can eat way more than other days, too! It just happens!
And.....don't forget about that 4 month plauteau! I am there now too!
My weight hasn't move for about 2 weeks so far and someone at my support group warned me that it 4 mo plateau is a big one lasting for 3-4 weeks!
So hang in there! You're doing great!! Your pics tell the story!

Shelly, the upper GI will tell them if you have a leak and it will also show how thiings are moving through your pouch and roux limb. I really can not say if your surgeon would go back in at this time and make it smaller but I personally feel like if you are stretched you could still lose the weight that you wan to because it is not the same size as previous. Ya know? Maybe an upper gi is what you need. I was the same size as you 291 when I had surgery and now I am 214. i had alot of trouble in the beginning and that is where the big drop came from. I ama nurse at a bariatric centter and i have heard several patients tell me that have reache goal that it is better to lose it slow. Keep that in mind and keep us posted on how you are doing. stacey
Shelley,
I think that you are doing great and somedays I can eat more then 4 ozs also. You started out not far from me and I am at 222 which isnt that much more then you. Dont get discouraged. How much more then 4oz can you eat, is it just an ounce or two and is it soft foods or dense foods because I can eat 5 or 6 ounces of scrambled eggs but I would not be able to eat that much of a chicken breast? Well let us know how the upper gi goes and what the doc says. Good luck

Shelley are you losing weight? If you are then I wouldn't worry about it, your body is doing what it needs to do. You have to understand that everybody is different. what i eat you may not be able to tolerate and what you eat I may not be able to tolerate. It probably won't hurt to let your doc take a look and see what is up, however if your losing I would go through another surgery until you absolutely need it.
