Hi everyone! I don't post too much so you guys don't really know me but I had surgery June 21st and I am down 64 lbs. I haven't really had any problems. My question to you guys is, what are you eating? I need some ideas, I am sick of cottage cheese, beans, and chicken. I don't like hamburger meat anymore because I can taste all the gristle in it when I chew it up so well. Anyway, I guess I just need some ideas!! Any suggestions?

I am eating just about everything, keeping high in protein and low in carbs. I crave vegetables alot more often than I crave meat so some times that is a problem. Because of this recent health issue I had to lay off all dairy and now I really want cottage cheese, which is a good thing as I can finally have dairy again. Pasta, noodles and rice do not go down easy and beef is always a little iffy but most everything else is great. Its not become alot more about portion size and not overeating!! Renee' in WI

Good question and I hope that there are a lot of good answers! This is my typical day....and my doctor is not happy with me! I had my gallbladder out 2 weeks ago. I have a hard time with beef (which I heard is not at all uncommon), pork, chicken, eggs, fish makes me dump....so what does that leave me with? Cheese....now they think I am lactose intolerant........ I have a glass of Nectar protein for breakfast....23 gr. of protein for lunch I have a 1 oz. piece of farmer's cheese snack.....Nectar protein mix I haven't been eating supper since my last surgery.... before bed I have another Nectar protein drink.......I am getting a total of 71 grams of protein a day. My labs were not good and that was before I had issues with food.....They put me on extra iron......lactaid....and metamucil waffers.... I am walking about 4 miles a day so other than everything hurting when I eat it I feel pretty good! Sue

I'd rather have ground turkey than ground beef anyday. Breakfast: One egg omlet w/cheese (sometimes a little ketchup or salsa on it) Special K bar Oatmeal Cream of wheat 1/2 South Beach Bar Carb aware yogurt Lunch/Dinner: I either pack leftovers from dinner or go out to lunch. So I'll list what I eat from home...and what I eat from restraunts. Home: Baked or Broiled Salmon Cod Deviled eggs Stir fry - several different kinds(sometimes made with diced chicken/sometimes made with strips of that really thinly sliced beef) Chicken baked in the oven with cans of tomotoes over it Shake N Bake Chicken One taco w/ lettuce, cheese, tomatoes 1/2 chicken enchilada Boil baggies of salisbury steaks or turkey Teryaki chicken and veggies Chili Beef stew Restraunts: Taco Bell: One regular taco OR pintos and cheese OR 1/4 of a taco salad Chick fila: One Grilled chicken filet w/ cheese (no bun or toppings) Wendy's: 1/4 - 1/2 of a small chili w/cheese or just the grilled chicken breast. Once I had the chili/cheese potato...but that was way too many carbs for me. Cerra Grande (Mexican): Chicken fajita's OR Steak fajita's OR Chicken & Steak fajita's. I divide it up into four meals. I don't use the shells, the plate of beans, the sour cream, guac or toppings. I just eat the hot & sizzling meat/veggies. OR Sometimes I get just one regular taco. Red Robin: Fajitas (same as above, except I love Red Robins fresh salsa all over it) WaWa: Turkey sandwich on wheat w/ provolone, lettuce, onions, salt, pepper & oregano. I take the top slice of bread off and eat almost 1/2 of the sandwich. I save the rest for the next day or meal. Sometimes I order a cup w/ two meatballs. Sometimes I order the hot beef topping by itself. Ruby Tuesday, Lonestar: Grilled shrimp OR salmon w/ veggies Outback: Grilled shrimp or that chicken w/cheese and mushrooms on it Seafood Restraunts: Hot crab dip (about 3 TBSP) on three crackers OR crabs OR grilled or steamed shrimp. Snacks: Cheese (cheddar, gouda, colby/jack) about two thin squares 2 peanut butter crackers Special K bar That's all I can think of. I'm a leftover junkie - so I tend to eat the same things for days at a time (except seafoods - I'm a snob). I hope lots of other people post. I need ideas, too! Pam

All, Well this is an interesting topic . . . . Since I am able to try different things, I have been, but find that once I go off my own little regimen I have created for myself to reach an efficient weight loss each week, my weight loss slows down, so I try to stick to this basic regimen (boring, I know, but darned effective): Pre-Breakfast: 1 sublingual b-12 1 chewable sugar free calcium tablet from GNC 2 chewable fiber tablets Liquid GNC multi-vitamin Breakfast: 1/2 can of GNC 50 Gram Slam (vanilla) Lunch: 1 Lite 85 Blue Bunny yogurt Afternoon "Pickmeup": 1/2 can of GNC 50 Gram Slam (vanilla) Protein: 56 gm. Fat: 1 gm. Sat. Fat: 0.5 gm. Carbohydrates: 22 gm. Sugar: 13 gm. Calories: 340 Dinner: Optional, often just eat a small salad w/ maybe some chicken on it, or have a 4 oz (or less, depending on what I can tolerate that day) piece of Mahi Mahi baked in the oven, or a couple of Nestle double fudge no sugar added popsicles (120 calories total). Now, that being said, that is my basic regimen. I have lately varied it quite a bit, but still try to keep to this basic regimen so that I can have accelerated weight loss. Other things I have tried are: Canned tuna Crackers with cheese and sometimes thinly sliced salamie Smoothies made with Fountain of Youth smoothie mix with banana and strawberries Pumpkin bars (yes, the ones with real sugar -- it was my birthday!) Chocolate Banana Bread (yes, with real sugar ... no excuses, just wanted some and took the rest to work and church for the priest lol) Eggs, scrambled, hard boiled, deviled, or in omelette Zuppa Toscana from Olive Garden (delicious, btw) Deli turkey and chicken Turkey chili White bean chicken chili Hot dogs Sloppy joe Chili cheese dip Tortilla chips Grapes Corn dip BLT dip Bread Company (Panera Bread) chicken salad on low-carb italian herb bread (about 1/3 of one of these is all I could eat) Bread Company (Panera Bread) Greek salad (about half of their "half" portion is all I could eat) Bread Company (Panera Bread) banana nut muffie ... took me all day to eat it LOL Bread Company (Panera Bread) chicken tomesto sandwich (ate about a third of this) Chicken breast, usually baked or sauteed in a little olive oil Chicken teriyaki skewers -- these are appetizers of chicken on skewers with a sort of Asian taste to them that Sam's sells. Since the portions on each stick are so small, one or two sticks are the perfect portion size for a meal. The package comes w/ sauce you can use with the chicken, but I avoid the sauce to avoid calories, plus the chicken is pretty flavorful without it -- very garlicky, if you like garlic. Baked potato Mashed potato Salad w/ red onions, feta cheese, tomatoes, and sometimes chicken Chocolate soy milk 1 % cow's milk Carb Countdown chocolate (cow's) milk Orange juice Pretty much anything else I am craving, with the exception of soda and candy . . . . I have been fortunate in that I have tolerated everything I have tried, except some hot pepper cheese (it was hotter than I expected and I promptly lost it). I have been a good girl and have not had soda for months (since before surgery). Most of the time I don't miss it. It was my single greatest source of calories pre-surgery. I also haven't had any major urge to try candy bars, etc. I am sure I'll have a few pieces around Halloween, though. There's a fair amount of junk food listed on my list, most of which I have had once (there was a pot luck at work last month with lots of good junk food). . . most of the time I try to stick fairly closely to my regimen. Two of my favorite things to make right now are white bean chicken chili and turkey chili. The turkey chili was way more delicious than I thought it would be. I also like to buy frozen mahi mahi portions that are already in 4 oz. portions, then simply season them with pepper and a little seasoned salt, spray a baking dish with Pam (butter or olive oil flavor), put a little pat of butter on top and bake it. Delicious, good for you, and SUPER low-cal (under 100 calories), but PACKED with 20 gm. of protein. Sam's sells 2 lb. packs of frozen portions for under $8. Anyway .... I hope this helps! - Beth

You guys are great I have selective memory so I always forget what I ate during the day. Here is a shot at what I can recall Breakfast - I at least try to get some juice in but mornings are terrible. I do eat a freshly cut bowl of fruit most mornings. Lunch - a scoop of chicken salad, baked chips (I put the salad on the chips) I can't eat bread so I do what I can. I also love my deli girls because she knows I had surgery and that I only eat two different things from their place and she will call me and see what I want that day lol She will cut me up a hot dog and place chili and cheese on it for me. I only eat about half of it though. I can eat about 1/2 cup of pasta salad too. Dinner - dinners are SO random to me I normally heat some frozen low fat or diet dinner up or I will sit at the table and people will give me a tiny bit of whatever they are eating. Snack - popcorn, frozen pops, crackers with cheese, ham and cheese roll, 100 calorie packs cookies

With 1 exception, I can eat anything so far. Breakfast: I did try a piece of french toast made with low carb bread and 1 T of Steele's Country syrup. I didn't "dump" but couldn't eat the rest of the day. Peanut butter on low carb bread, melted cheese on small L/c tortilla, scrambled eggs (2) with only one yolk and 1/2 piece of cheese, 2/3 c steel cut oatmeal, and on those rushed mornings, an Atkins bar while I drive to work! Lunch: 1/2 c. no fat/low sugar yogurt and 1 oz. mixed nuts 1/2 ham sandwich and 1/2 an apple or orange or 10 grapes. Snack: Guacamole with green or red pepper strips, beef jerky, SF popsicle. Dinner: 1/2 can chunky soup with 1 scoop unflavored protein powder 1/2 c part skim ricotta with 3T. spaghetti sauce and 1/2 mozzarella. Any kind of broiled meat (2-3 oz )and a low carb veggie or salad. Anything from the breakfast or lunch menus! I also get in at least 2 protein drinks a day and usually 48 oz of water.

One very tasty thing that I have been eating is: take a Steak-um(from the frozen food dept) (leave it flat and together as it comes in the package) and saute it with a little accent and Heinz 57 and then put this on a healthy wrap. You can add cheese and sour cream if desired. It tastes great (I know it might not sound like it does) and is thinly sliced and lowfat. I also love low-fat cheeze its (I try to limit these though). The only thing I have had trouble with is if I try to eat too fast or eat too many nuts. I also enjoy shrimp cooked in olive oil or I can't believe its not butter spray. Another tasty item (to me anyway) is baking a sweet potato and taking a portion of it and adding splenda, sugar-free syrup, and a little cinnamon. It tastes like candied yams this way. My nutritionist recommends sweet pot over a regular pot. I also love nutrigrain waffles with a little sugar free syrup, and a delicious treat is dipping apple pieces into Smuckers Natural Peanut Butter. This peanut butter has no sugar and must be refrigerated after opening. It has a true peanut taste. I also love heating up the Southwestern chicken South Beach diet wraps sandwich kits. These are usually in the Deli or in the meat section with the bacon and lunchmeat. They taste like Taco Bell. Hope this helps. Sincerely, LMW
