At least one big reason is that protein builds muscle. When you loose weight rapidly, you lose muscle. Also, if you aren't exercising a lot, you loose the muscle and the fat stays. The heart is also muscle, you can have heart damage as well. Hair has protein too, I am guessing the hair loss is at least in part helped from eating protein. So protein is essential as well as exercise. Anyone else have other reasons?? Good luck! Jo

I think it's so your body will use the protein instead of taking it out of your muscles, and I think it helps the whole healing process. You're right though, I hadn't really thought of ''why''. My main motivation to get it in is that it is suppose to help with hairloss, and mine is so thin that I can't afford to lose any. Take Care Renee!
