I have lost my sense of direction. I know I am suppose to be changing my eating habits but I feel like I am back where I was before surgery. I have not lost any weight in almost 3 weeks. I do not get sick and have been able to tolerate everything I have put into my mouth. The only thing I have not tried is sugar and soda. Could you please help me find where I need to be again. What is everyone eating for your meals? My dr told me not be a snacker and to eat just 3 meals a day. Any help would be great. Shelley 298/241/130

Hi Shelley, Just remember it is never too late to get on track again Here are some of the pouch rules as I know them (programs differ as you know): 1. Eat protein 1st 2. Increasing protein helps a plateau (be careful about total calories). Shoot for 100 grams! 3. Increasing water helps a plateau-shoot for 100 oz. 4. Low fat, low carb diet (no sugar, very little rice, pasta, bread, etc.) 5. Take advantage of the 1st 6 months, this is your opportunity to lose like you'll never have again. 6. No water during meals or for your docs specified time before and after. 7. Eat slowly-probably should take more than 15-20 minutes to eat 1/4 to 1/2 cup of food. 8. Take small bites 9. Chew like crazy, 30-35 times per bite 10. Move! Walk or some exercise for 30 minutes per day (or as your doc suggests). 11. Go to support groups 12. Avoid caffeine and carbonated beverages These are some of the things I live by. I rarely eat any carbs, will have a couple of crackers per day once in awhile. Mostly, I eat chicken, fish, shrimp, beans, peanut butter (reduced fat) and a small amount of vegies. I get in at least 2, maybe 3 protein items per day such as Nectar Protein Shakes, Stallone Protein Pudding, etc. Since I drastically increased my liquids and protein from the 60's to 90-100, and watch the amount and type of food I eat, I have been losing. Good luck Shelley, you can do it, get it while the gettin' is good. I read an article recently that said those who gained back weight in the long run are often folks who ate sugar, drank carbonated beverages and did not go to MD follow-ups and support groups. Take advantage! Jo

Hi Tina, I'm at 50 lbs also, and not worrying about. We will all lose at our body's own rate. I do my very best not to compare myself to others (or I could get discouraged). The important thing is that I'm following the rules of the pouch and I know by doing this I will lose the weight, so will you! Take care, Debra

Debra I agree with you 100%. If I compare myself to everyone I will get so discouraged. I am also at 50 lbs. out too and so far am still losing. I have increase my protein and try not to have so many carbs. Keep up the good work everyone. Laural

Hi Shelley, I could just ditto almost everything that Jo Ellen said. I'm using/ doing almost everything she said, except getting 100 oz. of water. But, since I've increased my protein to almost 100 g. from 80 and increased my water, I've been losing a little more consistently. I've lost 57 lbs. so far. I've refused to touch anything that has sugar in it for fear it would be too great of a temptation. I, too, haven't had too many problems with anything that I've tried, but I just stop eating- even if I don't "feel" full. I choose to not eat any more. One good tip someone gave me was to get a to go box when the food is served so you can put most of your meal away and only leave out the portion you should eat. Also, I never use a regular size plate. I always use a salad plate or even a teacup saucer to control my portions. They seem to get lost on a regular plate and I have a tendency to take more than I should. If you're having any problem getting your protein drinks in, I, too, would suggest the Nectar. I drink the Lemon Iced Tea all of the time. Also the Fuzzy Navel. I eat the Stallone protein puddings as well. It's an easy 20g. to get in. Keep plugging along!!! You'll be fine. If you can increase your exercise, it could help as well. I haven't done the best job in the world with this, but I did just get to start playing raquetball again after at least 5-6 years. Let me know if there's any way I can help. Kerri
