Bummed I haven't lost more!
Hi all. I will hit my 3 month anniversary on Friday. I have currently lost 53.2 lbs. I so thought I would have lost more by now. I am getting my protein in. Vitamins too. Water is iffy- My protein drinks, which I mix with water, accounts for about 34 of my 40+ ounces per day.
I know that I should exercise more. I had been walking almost every day for a half hour, but since school started again, I've only walked a couple of times per week. Still, with a caloric intake of about 700 or less, how can the weight not just be falling off? Don't get me wrong- I'm extremely grateful for the 50+ lbs. that I've already lost. I know that it will never come back on. But with another 100+ lbs. to go, I'm getting a little bummed.
I really did think it would just fall off of me. That has not been my experience.
Thanks for letting me vent!
Take care,
Kerri
Kerri,
You are doing great. But I do understand some of your frustration. As of last week I was down 50lbs. but most days I still feel as fat as the day of surgery. I see the lose in areas like my butt and legs and am able to wear clothes that were too tight or didn't fit at all last year.
We just have to remember, it took us years to get fat, so it will take us a while to get skinny too.
Keep up the good work.

I was going through the same thing recently and really understand how you are feeling! I got advice to increase my liquids to 70-100 oz. and increase my protein to 70-100 grams. I keep my calories as close to 500 as possible now too as my nurse told me increasing protein shouldn't increase calories or you are defeating the purpose. She also said that the 1st 6 months is the opportunity to lose the most weight so sticking to the pouch rules and getting the liquids and protein in is crucial to the weight loss. Like you, I felt like eating less than 700 calories would do it in and of itself but to help the body realize it isn't starving the protein and liquid are crucial. Hope this helps. Good luck and know that the weight loss you have experienced is very, very good! My nurse also said shoot for 12 lbs a month Good Luck! Jo
Kerri,
You are doing great! I think everyone who has this surgery feels like a failure no matter how much we lose early on, because someone somewhere lost more that we did by a certain time!
Stop comparisons!
Now for tips to possibly help speed up your weight loss, Up your protein a little and water and UP YOUR CALORIES. At this stage we are to be getting 800-1000 calories. Yes it is hard, but if you eat small meals more often you can do it. Mostly protein products, but some carbs too. This has helped start my ketosis again, after a stall and I am down 76 lbs since June 1st. I also have a lot more to go about 144lbs. I totally understand the rush factor you are feeling. I wanted to be 120lbs the day after surgery LOL!
Please be proud of what you have accomplished and thank the heavens that your 53lbs are gone for good!
Wendy
My surgerywas 06/24 and I've lost 55 lbs! So you are doing GREAT! Just think back....................have you ever lost 50 lbs in 3 months? I know I haven't!
You are doing great! Keep a positive attitude!
I haven't been exercising very much at all! But I have actually changed into exercise outfit twice this week with every intention of going! So, I'm one step closer......
Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much to all who sent encouragement my way!!
I so appreciate your support. You guys are the best! I'm going to keep on plugging away. It's great, though- I went and played raquetball, in a gym none the less, for the first time in over 5 years!!!! I was awful, but it sure felt good. Next step... getting back into volleyball again. It felt really good, especially since I hate just working out.
By the way, I checked with the nurse who runs the support group for my surgeon to find out the info on caloric intake. She replied that I shouldn't really look at calories right now. They want our protein to be between 90-120g per day, our carbs to be below 75g, and our water intake to be 64 oz. or more. I guess every doctor suggests a little different program. Just thought I would share.
Thanks y'all again!
Kerri
You should start measruing yourself. It helps!!
This week i only lost two lbs and i was irritated... but i lost 6 inches. Now 2 lbs with a 6 inch loss... just doesn't add up! So sometimes things are changing and moving in our bodies even though the scale may not show it.
As long as i am getting smaller that is the end result wanted. Don't focus so much on the scale. You will go through ups and downs and stalls.
I'm with everyone else..I've lost 55 lbs too..and my surgery was 6/24/05. So I guess we are just slow losers. I read about how in 3 months 100 lbs just fall off some of these people and I'm like wow..But then I say to myself just rapid weight loss has to do something to the body..so I'm just happy I'm going slow because thank god..I have been fine with no complications..So everyone lets just take this journey together and be grateful of our health and the fact we have lost some weight at all..Keep venting it helps!
