Beware of certain resturants
Most of this applies to my state of Ohio. BUT this is a nationwide chain and you all need to be aware of the discrimination and poor customer service that we can recieve. To let you know this letter has been sent in triplect(sp) to thier head quarters, regional office, and who ever else will read it. Thank you for letting me vent and I hope this helps others.
Take Care

To whom it may concern,
On the evening of September 20, 2005 my family and I came to your store Springfield Golden Corral 1740 Bechtel Ave.to enjoy and nice evening meal. The lady at the service counter was very friendly and helpful when taking our drink orders. When I presented a card that stated that I have had a surgical procedure called a Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass (other wise known as a stomach bypass), she informed me that I could not get my meal for the children's plate cost nor could I get a by-the-weight container (to go container). She told me that I could speak to her manager, James Accord. She paged him to the front counter/register area. When I tried to show him my card he asked me where I had my surgery and if it was local. He did not look at my card. When I explained what procedure I had, he said he understood that several of his wait staff had the same thing done. He said that he received an e-mail today that said the corporation could not except nor give a discount to anyone who has had this surgery. I find this very hard to believe since I was in your Beavercreek store a month ago and they allowed me to get a to-go container. I was in your Rochester, MN store and they allowed me to get a meal at children's plate cost. I can only eat 1/2 cup of food. Because of our family's cir****tances I chose for us to continue to eat in your Springfield store. We paid 8.89 for my 1/2 cup of food. I found that your manager was very lacking in customer service (to which I have 15 year of service in myself), and had a very bad attitude. My wait staff Rae Jean was very helpful and very courteous. She was very empathic to my aggravation. She did her very best to try and ensure that we could come back to your Springfield store. However, I can not pay almost $9.00 for a 1/2 cup of food in the future. I will recommend to my friends those who have had the surgery and those who have not of my ordeal there. I feel I shouldn't have to do this. You are in the business to make customers happy and to make money. The other stores I have mentioned in this letter see to my happiness and I will continue my business with them.
Sincerely,
Heather A. Powell

I just don't go to buffets anymore or if I felt so inclined would buy the least expensive available (some have only salads) plus I figure it's just payback for all the years I ate WAY more than my moneys worth, LOL.
I have a friend that owns a GC. It is company policy that they give a $.50 discount. Restraunts are in BUSINESS if you don't like someones policy go elsewhere.
Sorry if this sounded rude but this is just my opinion.

I feel your pain. I avoid the buffets around my area. But I have come into a run in with the card issue. Not all places acknowledge them. We are at the mercy of society. I just take my doggy bag home and eat off it later. Don't get discouraged. Just move onto the next place. Maybe we should start a rally. That will get everyones attention. The million bariatric surgery protest march.

I am a manager at a fast food resteraunt, and our policy is to serve the customer! I find it pure bull ****! YOU don't tell the customer no thats it. They should change their policy, and cater to their customers needs not the other way around. That is what business are in business for. I totally understand your frusteration.
Thank you for posting your letter Heather. Maybe you should tell them that if they refuse to change this rule that you will start a boycott of their restaurants nationwide, even circulate a petition. I might even contact a lawyer in this situation, because that is nothing but discrimination!!! These people apparently think we are just going to lay down and continue to be walked on, I say they should think again! I'd cause a big stink-contact your local paper-maybe they'd print an article about it. That just makes me so mad!! Let us know what response you get, and I would continue to be a thorn in there side until they responded. Just know you have so many people that would support you, YOU GO GIRL!!
Heather,
No restaurants are required to honor those cards, personally I would never embarass myself by asking for a break in the price of the food because I choose to have surgery. My boyfriends mother has krohns disease and weighs less than 100lbs she can barely eat any meal without pain but always enjoys when we all go to dinner, she doesnt eat much at all but would never ask for any special treatment. Be happy you don't live in the constant chronic pain she does and you have a chance at a better life. Because we opt to improve our health does not mean the world has to start catering to us. Did they charge you more at the buffet when you took 3 plates to the thin girl next to you one. I really think those cards are insulting to wls patients, I am worth whatever the food costs. I ate filet mignon over the weeked at 60 dollars a plate and I was worth every penny of it.

Heather I live in Texas and have just eatten at Golden Corral. I presented my card and instead of charging me for a child's plate price they gave me the 'senior citizens' discount which I stll think is to much but at least I got a discount. If I do eat there again I am going to insist on the child's price and see if I get it.
