Height? And Exhaustion?
Hey everyone!! I've always wondered why they don't have us list our height as well as weight... seems as though everyone is doing SO well... I've sorta tried to "compare" my loss w/everyone else... but would be easier if I knew how tall you all were! I'm 5'8 and have lost 61 pounds (up & down this last week... not sure why).
Also, any thoughts on what vitamins I might be lacking? I take 2500 mcg of B-12 a day... an adult chewable complete vitamin and get my protein and water in. But the last month I seem to be steadily becoming more and more easily tired! I can't hardly summon the energy to go for a walk anymore, except all of the walking I do at work...
Thanks!
Maria

Hey Maria,
I have thought about that too, strange isnt it? I am 5' 3/4" I had my lap RNY on 6/9 and so far have lost 47 lbs. I also get tired, but as a Stay at home Mom, I have the opportunity to rest in the afternoon. I take 2 viactive multi's and 2 viactive calcium and a liquid B complex. I know that my protien is too low, and I don't drink enough. I never seem to be able to take more than a few sips at a time. Hope this helps, and GOOD LUCK!

HI MARIA....
i have no problem adding that i am 5'5....and with pre op and post op weight losses i am down 82 lbs.
As far as adding supplements i wouldnt do. I would imagine your surgeon is gonna do blood work up on you. I just had mine done with my surgeon at my 3 month check up and all my levels are fine. I wouldnt supplement unless i show i needed it. MY calcium, Vit B, Pottassium and iron levels are fine. MAYBe if your not scheduled to have blood work checked you should do so.
TIREDS can be related to alot of things and very hard to pin point. Potassium, VIT B and even dehydration. Let alone the major surgery
we went thru.
Well good luck

Hi Maria,
I am 5'3" and have lost 52 lbs pre and post op (36 since surgery). I think height is just a small part of it. It really has more to do with lean mass, metabolism, etc. Do you have anyone in your area who does underwater weighing? I am having mine done at the university soon. They will tell me how fast I can expect to loose and how much I can expect to lose depending on a lot of different factors. I say don't compare yourself to ANYONE else as you'll go crazy.
Supplements, same thing. Do what your doctor says to do. My surgeon has done this surgery for 25 years and is very good. He believes in supplements for many reasons and I take them. I think we need to do what our doctors say because they all have their reasons for success. Doing what someone else does might throw off the balance so to speak.
I get tired too but I think being adequately hydrated, exercising and getting enough protein prevents a lot of that!
Good luck to you!! Jo
Hi there! I guess so far I'm the small fry. I'm only 4'10". Had my lap RNY on 6/28 and have lost 33 lbs since surgery and 42 lbs overall. My weight on surgery date was 230.
I take two chewable multivitamins a day and two Viactive calcium a day. I just had my blood work done so I'm not sure yet about the B12. I'll know tomorrow.
We all lose at different rates, so I don't try to compare with others. Because I am so vertically challenged  I have noticed it in my inches lost, which as of yesterday, are over 100" lost! Make sure you measure, because even when the weightloss slows down you still lose inches.
You are doing fantastic, keep up the good work.
All my best, Deb

Well, I'm standing in at 5'4-1/2". I've lost 60 pounds since my surgery on June 13.
I'm taking 2000 mcg of B-12 a week, a good multivitamin daily, a Super B-Complex 1x a day, and a Hair, Skin & Nails supplement 3 times a day. I have my bloodwork done tomorrow -- 3rd try in 10 days to get blood from me, with the last two attempts being unsuccessful!! -- so we'll see what the numbers look like!! I'm having a problem with being tired, but I'm attributing mine to no longer having my C-Pap machine, thanks to Missouri Medicaid's wonderful, insane cuts to the program!!! I've still not lost enough to be able to sleep through the night!

Pre op was 26 and the rest has come off post. Down 90 lbs.
I am 5'8", started at 418, I carry it well (but you couldn't tell that from my pic) most believe I was at 320 when I started this journey.
went from a 34 to a 26 so far in sizing.
taking centrum silver daily and hemoplex every other day (I had a bleed at week 3 which diminished my red blood cells low to 43 (should 115).
getting my bloodwork done next week to determine if I need anything else.

Hey Zita,
I had a bleed one week out, you are the first person I have heard of who had this happen after surgery besides myself. Did your blood pressure drop when you stood up? My dropped to 80 / 50 for about an hour and they ended up doing a blood transfusion. Once they did that, I felt o.k. How about you? Jo
Hey Jo Ellen,
Yep, my pressure bottomed out. i was at a family Christening, after the ceremony and we are all eating lunch when I felt funny and passed out right to the floor. I was three weeks post op.
What I thought was dark stool turned out to be a bleed over several weeks. I thought it was just part of the process (it really did not specify in my book what to look for). I never mentionned it to my mother (she's a nurse) if I had I probably would have not gotten that bad.
Anyway, the ambulance took me away and rushed me to a Canadian hospital but because my surgeon was in Detroit, they took 7 hours to reach someone over there and get me priority transferred. I finally got some blood around 1am (12 hours after my episode). They did a cat scan and everything cuz they did not know if I had had a seizure as well (someone saw me twitch while I was passed out).
There was nothing on the tests but my hemoglobin was down really low so they gave me a total of 4 pints over 2 days, along with 4 days of complete bedrest (and that darn cathader again!) in the hospital.
Let me tell you pureed foods are REALLY GOOD at home and NOT in a hospital setting.
I have been fine and losing ever since. what was your experience?
Hi Maria,
I'm 5'2 and I'm down 43.5 pounds so far, although I'd say the last 3 weeks have been really slow going. I think i've only dropped 2 pounds. I want to let you know that instead of taking a chewable multi vitamin, my doctor recommends to us that we take a "Building Block" vitamin that I got off bariatriceating.com. Nurse Natalie even gives the website, price and everything. I still take an additional 2000 mg of B-12 each week, and I feel absolutely wonderful. Maybe you might want to check into these. Just an fyi.
