I am 9 weeks post-op and am following my docs directions. I have noticed that different MDs give different instructions. however, after reading several post, I think I may be doing ok. I want to know if 3-4 oz. per meal is @ average for most 9 weekers? also, can drinking water stretch the pouch? I sip it constantly, but I can finish a 20 oz. in about 10-15 minutes after excersize, is that too much, too fast? finally, since Jello liquifies, can you count it as liquid? Like everyone else, I am terrified I will stretchhhhhhhhhhh the pouch, I actually have been having nightmares @ eating too much or eating/drinking the wrong things like soda!! I am averaging @ 400-600 calories per day, consuming @ 3-4 oz. per meal 3 times per day. sometimes, most of the time, I still feel hungry. I stop eating though because Im afraid of stretchhhhhhhhhhhhing the pouch!!! can anyone relate??? any helpful advice??

From what my surgeon has told me, water will not stretch the pouch. There are times I am very thirsty and can down 20 oz in 10 minutes. Also, my surgeon has always said that jello can be counted as a liquid. It was very helpful in the first week after surgery when I was on clears. Concerning the size of my meals, I have always been told to stop when I am full--it has worked well for me so far. Hope this helps! -Cheri

Hi Peggy, You are certainly right. Different programs have different requirements. Where I go they tell us 1/4 cup per meal until 3 months out...then 1/3 cup foucusing of course on protein. I am to make my meals last for 30-45 minutes and stop then if I am not done. Believe me I am a very light eater and it is very hard to make 1 turkey meatball last 30 minutes...but sometimes it is longer than that! I can barely finish any of my food.....but I am NEVER hungry! When I need to eat I get very grouchy and mean.......so I try to never get to that point. I am also to drink 64 oz of fluid a day and Jello is considered a clear liquid as well as SF popsicles. I do have a problem getting in my fluids but am working on getting enough. I walk 4-5 miles in the evening and take a 16 oz bottle of crystal light with me and sip on it when I walk....rarely do I fini**** I wish I could but if I drink too much or too fast...up it comes! Just listen to your doctor! He knows what is best for his patients! Sue
