I had the Lap RNY on 6/21/05, the surgery went well and I was doing fine until 7/25/05 when I experienced severe pain. I ended up in the hospital for 10 days and had surgery for an obstructed bowel and a hernia. The most pain I have ever experienced in my life! I was sent home with a G tube until 8/29/05 and it is not only painful but is driving me crazy because it is so uncomfortable! The dr says it has to stay in till the 29th so that my stomach heals around it. In any event, the taste and smells of foods make me nauseous and I am really having a hard time eating most anything. This reminds me of being pregnant! I have lost 60lbs so far but I am weak and know that I need to increase my caloric intake. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!! Wendy

Dear Wendy, I am so sorry you are going through this. I have not had your experience, and I wouldn't know what to suggest. Perhaps you could call your nutritionist as ask. Have you tried any protein drinks that you like? Your body has been through some tremendous trauma. Please call your doctor or nutritionist as soon as you can so you can get some ideas of what to do. Maybe the doctor could prescribe some antinausea medication like Zofran or something. I sure do hope you feel better really soon. Debra

Oh, Wendy...I'm so sorry you are having to go through all of this. I hope you are feeling better soon (((((((hugs))))))))) Your doc may prescribe a suppository for nausea ... those things work REAL well.... I'm racking my mind to come up with food ideas for you.... what about those protein puddings? I eat Stallone Protein pudding...chocolate. It's pretty good. You can order it online or get it at GNC.... You might also be able to sip Ensure.... just little bits (high in calories)....ask your doc about this one...mine recommended it to me once. Are you allowed "regular" type foods? Or are you limited to liquids or soft/mushy food? The part-skim ricotta w/ a little spagetti sauce is yummy....but can you have tomato products? That might be too acidic.... One thing I do when my pouch is grouchy and I'm feeling nauseous... I get the chicken noodle soup from Chik-Fila and ask them to give me just the soup without the noodles and stuff in it. Then, I sip that. It's a thick liquid....but soooooo gooood on a bad pouch day. It's very hearty. I drink half and save the other half for later. I use my teeth to strain any pieces they might miss. It just "feels" healing. ((hugs)) Pam
