need information on bowel blockage? mineral oil?
Hi, I am struggling again with major bowel problems. I am almost 8 weeks out. This is the worse that it has been. Has anyone had to go to the hospital with this? What was done to help? How do you know that you have a bowel blockage that needs treatment?
I have not been able to eat today except a protein shake this morning for breakfast. I took an approved laxative yesterday and again today and still have had little success going to the restroom. I feel weak and nauseated today and have no appetite and definitely feel like I need to go to the restroom but can't. I know that my water consumption needs to be more, but I am miserable now. Does anyone have any advice? Can weight loss surgery patients take mineral oil daily? or use fleet enemas? Please help. Thank you. LMW
Thanks Sharyn, I had a very rough day, but I am feeling better now. I will be drinking all my water now. The fleet enema was very helpful. I will be going to the doctor if this happens again. I think my main problem is not enough fluids. I just never realized how miserable this can make you feel. I almost went to the emergency room--and then a breakthrough! Praise God. Thanks so much for everyones response.
i had a similar problem a couple of weeks after surgery. I actually had to use the fleet product myself. I asked my nutrietionist regarding it and she said to increase my fiber intake. So, now I add Benefiber to a class of cranberry juice every morning and haven't had a problem since. Also, not that this is the best way to handle the situation but you could eat some sugar free products..ie ice cream or jello and the ingredients in the sugar free products produces a laxative effect. The NT said once we start eating more food than the problem will resolve itself. I only go about every 3 days but considering the amount of food we are taking in..it makes sense. Just make sure your diet includes alot of fiber and you will be fine.
Hi,
I had the same thing accompanied with incredible pain on 7/25 & spent 10 days in the hospital. I finally was taken to the ER and had emergency surgery to take care of a completely obstructed bowel and a hernia. Honestly, it was the most painful experience of my entire life. They said my bowel was practically lifeless! Don't wait, go see a surgeon imediately!!
