thanks sue! that all makes a lot of sense. i am in the same boat as you as far as my meals go. yesterday i ate a string cheese for breakfast, a peach for lunch and a peach for dinner! not a very good day, usually i do better getting protein first in my meals. i was just not very hungry yesterday. i really have to concentrate on the protein piece...my doc only allows one protein drink a day, which is my nectar lemon tea at night. i suppose i should start using fitday again, huh? i need to motivate myself to start getting more protein! thanks again! hugsssssss

My surgery was on 6/21 - 30 pounds. I'm still off work and am getting up about 8:30 or 9 in the morning----way too late for the regimen we need to follow. Too hard to get everything in. Right now I'm on full liquids like Deb, but normally: I do 2 protein shakes a day, and instead of water, a Proti 15 fruit drink. I have a variety of things on my "menu"....hot oat bran cereal (has more protein than oatmeal), slices of sharp cheddar wrapped in thin sliced deli meat(Hillshire Farms), egg salad, pickled beets, shrimp ****tail with baby shrimps (one of the members gave me that idea), salmon, tuna salad, crackers with peanut butter (only 1 or 2 a day--too much fat), SF pudding, baby fruit (Fruit Medley and applesauce are good and very convenient), cooked carrots, thick soups, yogurt, and tofu slices. I soak the tofu in soy sauce, worcestershire, and wine vinegar, then saute it. Very good---- Don't knock it til you try it! Lotsa protein and nutrients. The firm has much more protein than the silken tho.

Luckily I have not thrown up after eating any of the below - keep in mind I haven't been making the healthiest of choices. I'm also still on soft solids/pureed foods. However, I don't puree. I just chew the chicken really well. I'm also a fast food addict. scrambled egg with cheese, pintos and cheese from Taco Bell, any kind of chicken, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, beans a la charra at mexican restaurants, ranch style beans, bean and bacon soup, cheese sticks, ravioli, light yogurt, thin deli turkey, laughing cow soft cheese, peanut butter and saltines, tuna salad, tortilla with beans or eggs(not the whole tortilla and probably not a great choice but it is easy when out on the run - fast food), yogurt smoothie with some banana and strawberry. Notice I don't eat veggies and hardly any fruit. I REALLY need to work on the vegetables. I havent tried any beef yet. I'm afraid to.

My doctor says over and over that he wants this to be simple enough to live with. I eat whatever I want now, I jus****ch how much and aim for healthier choices. The only things I've had any trouble with are pot roast (roast beef for you Yankees) and any meat reheated in the microwave (too tough). I think if I cut the roast across the grain in much smaller bites the next time, I'll be fine. Of course, I stay away from sugar, but I have had a bite here or there with no problems. A bite of chocolate mousse pie at Olive Garden was divine! I had pizza (with everything except peppers) for dinner last night (1/4 slice, or so) and it was GOOD! I'm eating out for lunch alot since I've just gone back to work, and that's how we reconnect. Just the way I'm eating has changed. I'm down 37 lbs. since June 14th, and seem to be coming out of my plateau. I'm pretty happy with the way things are going at the moment. Even during the plateau I've dropped clothes size, so who could complain? Follow your doctor's recommendations, but don't be afraid to try something new. I separate what I think is about 2 ounces and eat only that while we're talking, etc. After about 10 minutes, I'll pick at what else is left, but seldom want more than a taste more. I'm careful to not get overfull because it is so uncomfortable and I definitely am afraid of stretching my pouch. Also, since I'm not obsessing about it, other people are more comfortable about eating in front of me. That was a problem at first. Lunch seems to be a bigger meal (such a relative term) than any other meal or snack for me. My husband is such an amazing cook that not eating real and regular food isn't much of an option for me. He has made my favorites as healthy as possible, and we seem to be finding a happy (and healthy) way of eating and living. It's really great! I've had Gumbo, Jambalya, rib-eye, mexican food, Italian, seafood, sushi, shrimp diane (my favorite, shrimp in a butter & garlic sauce over angel hair pasta), as well as the more normal fare. We love the talipia fillets. It's fish that isn't too fishy, and you can prepare it dozens of different ways. That's a staple around here, usually served with sauteed squash and zuccinni. I try to get in fruits an veggies as much as possible, too. My doctor doesn't encourage the protein drinks, just supplements (calcium, multi with iron, and sublingual B complex), but I try to get one down whenever I can. Hope this give you another perspective. It seems to be working for me! Good luck, Kristie

Hi, my name is Renee. I had surgery on 6/20/05. I have lost 50lbs. I eat alot of fish, chicken and other low calorie or low salt items. I really dont eat alot of potatoes or pasta. They are too starchy for me. Sugar free has become my friend!

A list of foods I eat are: cheese, chicken, fish (all kinds), tuna (i prefer the hickory smoked flavor), real crab meat (not the imitation, the real crab meat can be found in the frozen food section by the fish or in the tuna section in a can), shrimp, scallops, eggs (rarely, they make me gag), home made chili (has 2 lbs ground turkey meat, 2 lg cans of crushed tomatoes, 1 can regular size can tomatoe sauce, 1 large can kidney beans, 2 large chopped green peppers, 2 medium chopped onions, 2 packets of chili seasoning, chili powder, natures seasoning, mrs dash all cooked in a crock pot for 8 hrs...it's yummy and good for you), i just bought some atkins whole wheat bread (lower in carbs) and i eat a half slice of toast w/ egg salad on top (i use eggs, low fat helmans mayo, splenda, and natures seasoning in mine) it's about the only way i can eat eggs w/ out gagging, boca burgers (w/out the bun), they also have boca chicken patties and boca chicken nuggets, yogurt, cheese sticks (i can't stand the low fat cheese yucky, so i eat the regular ones), pork skins if i want something crunchy......i think that is about it. I don't eat pasta's, rice, or mashed potatoes. I do eat green veggies most of the time w/ cheese so it will add to my protein count. I haven't been eating fruits because they are high in sugar. I don't like to eat out much because every time i do i get an upset stomach...i contribute this to what they use to cook their food in so my days of eating out (we used to eat out AT LEAST 3 times per week sometimes more) are pretty much over. If I know we will be eating out I ususally bring a shake for myself just incase I can't eat the food.
