My surgery was the 21st, I've lost 40# to date. Right now it's lunch time and I'm having the chicken cashew South Beach diet frozen dinner. I am not eating the whole thing (way too much food) and I'm mainly eating the chicken and cashews. I eat alot of seafood and fish, cheese and eggs and a few veggies and fruits. For a little crunch and salt every now and then I'll grab some roasted almonds or soy chips.

Colleen, I take it you're trying to find variety - I know the feeling well! I'm eating things like oatmeal (protein added), fish (mostly broiled), lots of chicken (always looking for new, simple ways to fix this one), scrambled egg taquito, mashed potatos, mashed sweet potatos (potatos help meat go down better for me), a new one is corn on the cob (cut off and scraped of course), ripe cantalope, cottage cheese (getting really old) along with protein drinks, crystal light, milk & raspberry leaf tea. That's about it. Penny -30 since day of surgery -79 total

Penny, The corn works for you? I'm so jealous - I would *love* to be able to eat that! I am finding that anything with a skin on it does not work well for me. I can eat tomatoes - which are heavenly right now! - but I can only eat the insides. I have been eating grapes as well, but friends and family have been picking on me because I peel them first! I had my surgery June 23rd and have lost 26lbs. I try to avoid carbs, limiting myself to one fruit and one vegetable serving a day. Have just started adding small amounts of lettuce, grated carrots, and fresh tomatoes which I was craving and tolerated well. I still drink two protein drinks and still like my sugar-free popsicles. I also try to vary the protein I eat. Dairy, fish, seafood and low fat meat and poultry. I bought Susan Maria Leach's book, Before & After: Living & Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery. I highly recommend this book. After reading it I actually attempted a recipe with more than three ingredients! She is a bypasser herself, a gourmet cook and has lots of great information and tips in the book. I've bought several things from her website http://www.BariatricEating.com including low carb crackers to eat with tuna salad, or occasionally peanut butter, beef jerky, SF syrups, etc. I also eat a low carb protein bar as a special treat if I have them and SF cooked pudding.

I have not had much luck trying new foods. I am unable to eat meats so far. I have been sticking with eggs, cheese sticks, mashed potatoes, soups and protien shakes and bars. These have been pretty safe for me. Best wishes, Laura

Hi Colleen! Well, I may be the odd man out. My doc is really strict and I am not to have seafood until 8 wks out, and after I tolerate that then chicken. I am not to have beef or por****il 6 months out. About all I can eat is eggs, cheese (very low fat), oatmeal, broccoli, wheat melba toast, and my protein shakes. I hardly ever eat anything that is not protein, cuz otherwise I wouldn't get the protein in. I will probably try seafood on Sunday, even though I am suppose to do it on Wed next week, as I usually want to try it on the weekend incase I get sick. I am praying it does well w/ me, so I don't have to drink so many shakes. I uped my protein intake to over 90 grams, doing 4 shakes a day. Good luck to all!!

Hi Colleen, I had my surgery on 6/1 and am 51 pounds down.....119 pounds total. I eat turkey, chicken, white type cheeses, and boca burgers. That about covers it. My pouch doesn't like beef, pork, fish, eggs, or yellow cheeses. It might have something to do with my gallbladder which is coming out...or maybe my pouch is a grouch. I am not restricted in my diet anymore. I get between 60-70 grams of protein a day and usually between 250-350 calories. I have a Nectar roadside lemonade for breakfast every morning and have another protein mix before bed. I am so afraid to eat new foods as I have dumped on tuna and catfish....and had a grilled chicken salad out today and have been in the bathroom all day long! Good luck! Sue

hi sue, i am just curious about something. i stopped using fitday about a month ago, i really should start again! but don't the protein drinks have like 90-100 calories by themselves per serving? that would be 180-200 calories just for your 2 drinks. should i not count the calories from my protein drink? when i was counting, the only time i could get in the 60-70g range for protein, i was always between 400-500 calories. hugs~mary jo

Mary Jo, When I asked my surgeon about calories the answer was, "we don't count calories we count protein!" So I don't know how many calories that we are supposed to have. I do know that I get 60-70 grams of protein a day which is what I am supposed to do. Nectar has 90 calories per serving which would be 180 for the 2 drinks I have each day. My meals are so sparse that if I didn't have the protein drinks I would have about 150 calories a day. I usually eat 3/4 a piece of fat-free deli turkey and 1/2 piece of farmer's cheese for lunch and either a Boca burger 90 calories or a couple of turkey meatballs for supper...that is about 57 calories......so without the drinks you can see where I would be.....about 25 grams of protein and 150 calories....not enough! I eat this way because I waste too much food if I try to eat other things. My pouch is really grouchy. I don't eat between meals because that is what got me into trouble in the first place. Sometimes I will have a Designer Whey chocolate protein drink at night.....but not too often because it has been so hot that the lemonade is really good! But without fitday I would lose track of what in the heck I was doing or did that day. I have to leave post-it notes around the house to remind myself to eat....weird how things have changed! Sue
