stomach pain.....
It just started this morning after I had my protein shake. I called my surgeon's office this morning and she said to call the dr here at the hospital I work at and see if I can get in with them since it is a 4 1/2 hour drive to see my surgeon.
My surgeon's office is kinda worried since I have never been sick. Everything I eat goes down just fine and I haven't had any problems. Do you think that is good or could there be a problem they don't know about?

Hi Shelley -
About three weeks ago I was having this uncomfortable kinda pain feeling right where it seemed things would enter my pouch. Had felt great up till then, no pain nothing!!! I called the Doc after it being there on and off for about 2 weeks they brought me in the next day. After an UGI they said I have severe acid reflux, never had this before in my life. Told me to take two pepcid in the AM and PM and I have been great ever since. Just a thought.

This past couple of weeks my diet has seemed to change. My appetite has gone down and my pouch is much more finicky than it was before. This kinda makes me happy since i felt i was eating too much before. BUt i have had gas.acid issues as well. I keep rolaids or gas stuff handy and it does help a bit.
YEPPERS sometimes i too get a dull kinda of pain in my left saide that i havent figured out what triggers it, and the why...but i have narrowed it
down to two times i get my ache:
1. IF my bowls are full...as the next day i go alot.
2. GAS
3. IF my pouche is empty...sometimes if i didnt have a meal and its empty i seem to get such.
I go see my surgeon on the 25th and i plan to mention it then. I am trying to figure it out. I do use tums w/ calcuim as per my surgeon so
for me im not sure if this is an acid refluxy issue...who knows.
Well good luck

Hi everyone. I am 6 months out from my surgery (read other boards to remind me of the first few months). I still get pain in my stomach if I don't chew well enough or I drink too fast. I am so glad to read your postings as all of us need the support. This pouch is so wonderful but does take time to get used to. I have started my B12 shots (every week for one month, 2 weeks for 2 months and each month after that). I also take the B12 under the tongue. I take 1200 mg of calcium per day and multi vitamins. I am able to work out for 45-60 minutes 5-6 days per week and my feet don't hurt. This surgery has been wonderful and I am so grateful to have had it. Keep up the good work. I go for my 6 month check up next week. Sarah 266/187/140
Bypassers are prone to ulcers, especially where the new openings are sewn. My surgeon prescribes Prevacid before you even leave the hospital as a preventative. I think my prescription has 6 refills. I have a friend who is over a year out and had discontinued taking it (one less pill) but just recently started having pains. She called her doctor and started taking Nexium and the pains went away. The longer you wait the worse an ulcer can get. They may want to scope you to actually see if there is an ulcer.
These are not anti-gas meds, but medications that reduce acid.
