Dairy and Protein Shakes
I know this question was probably asked a thousand times before but I need to ask again because I missed it..
Adkins advantage or Ready to drink protein shakes..the adkins seems to taste really good and has plenty of protien, 1 grm of sugar and vits and minerals. Now..I was a vegetarian before I had this surgery (yes go figure) and I only drank soy milk. After surgery I can't stand any milk even soy. It gives me a funny feeling in the pouch. I need the ready to drink protein shakes because I am on the go constantly. Drinking my protein is better than eating it. Any suggestions other than having to get the lactaid (I'm trying to avoid another pill or chewable) The ready to drink juice Isopure and others are nasty and leave a foul taste on the tongue and on the breath. I can only drink about 1/2 a bottle of those before feeling sick.
Second...what are the best protien bars out there. Right now I'm eating a bar called pure protein has 20 g of protien per bar 190 calories and 0 sugar. I only ate 1/2 bar before getting very full. So I'll save the rest for later. But at this rate..between the bars and the shakes I'll be barely hitting my protein daily grams of 70. I'd have to eat 3-4 bars or shakes or combo to hit this and if i'm only eating 1/2 per sitting it won't work out since I would like to eat other things too but other things are lower in protein. Suggestions suggestions..thanks so much! Boy eating is a hassle!
Tracy,
I use the Nectar protein mixes. They are fruit flavored and you mix them with water. I love the Roadside Lemonade mixed with Crystal Light. My daughter bought me a container used to for baby food. It is round and divided into 3 or 4 sections. Each one holds enough for one protein drink....it has a pour spout so you can pour it out that way. Very hand on the road! Nectar has 23 grams of protein 0 sugars 0 fats.....I buy it at the Vitamin Shoppe.
As fars as protein bars I buy the Detour, Oneway, U-turn....they have approximately 170 calories 6 grams of fat...5 sugars and 15 grams of protein. A friend of mine who had her surgery 2 years ago told me about them as well as All in One.....150 calories.....3.5 grams of fat....
They all tastes really yummy too! She told me to look for bars that would give you at least 10 grams of protein and not go over 100 calories. She has lost 140 pounds and now wears a size 4!
I hope that this will help you out!

Hi Tracie,
I like the premixed protein drinks, too. But the one I use is by World Wide Protein from Trader Joes and I think it has milk in it. So that won't be good for you!
The other one I REALLY like is Unjury. They sell travel packs and you just mix with water! I buy the unflavored and mix it with crystal light or ice tea! They are pretty good! I like them because they're not gritty like other protein drinks!
Good luck !
