I have been obese since i was in second grade. I am having a hard time setting goal weights. I am going top end of height and weight chart for now. But as far as short term goals i was wondering what type of goals you guys set for yourself? Are there major hills that are standard? I would assume 50 and 100 but was curious if there were others and what all the cute nicknames are that you guys have for them? I just want to be hip like you guys! Ok i was dying to find a way to use afro man. HA HA Paula

Paula - You are sooo funny! I love the Afroman! I'm still pretty new at this, too, only 7 weeks out. But my mini-goals have been pretty much little amounts at a time. I started out at 257. When I got down to 237, I was like YEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!! Then I immediately started looking forward to being under 230. Now I am at 221/220 (depending on the scale's mood) and I can't wait to be under 220. I keep saying, "soon, I'll be in the 2 teens". My next "big" goal is when I'm finally under 200, and I can have a weight that starts with a "1", like "normal" people. I try not to look all the way to my end goal - 150ish because it makes it seem so far away and unattainable. Thanks for the laugh!

Hey there! You're a riot! Anyway, I started at 334. So I had a long way to go! My first dream was to break 300. I did that and am so happy about that. The only way I could think of setting a goal was to think of a weight I once was. It's funny, I have not been under 200 EVER! I think I came out this size! So, I remember being 213 in Hugh school (I thought I was fat then!). I figure if I can get to that weight, I will be ELATED! My surgeon didn't actually set a goal for me. I know I will be looking to break every 50..even every 25. We have to rejoice in the smaller losses too so we don't get discouraged! Well, best of luck to you! Keep everyone informed! My surgery was also on June 13th. It is interesting to see your progress. I have a hard time gauging by many of our fellow juners cause they were so much smaller to begin with. Mine has been almost exactly the same. My weight pre surgery was 344. But the week before it was 334. I was retaining a huge amount of water for some reason. Anyway i also was down 30 at 4 weeks and 42 at 6 weeks. It is very nice to see that things must be going normal for me. I was getting discouraged at smaller losses than projected by the doctor. I will have to keep tabs with you to see how things go for us. Paula

Paula, Love the afroman! too cool! Anyway...about goals....I have 3! 1 is to wear bra that has 2 hooks! Last year at this time I was wearing a 44DD with the phantom boobs on top...or the 4 boob look! They had 4-5 hooks! Now I am wearing a 36 C! And yes it has 2 hooks! My 2nd goal is...that when I take a bath that the water drains from behind me without lifting my butt up! I am very close to that one! 3rd goal....when I sit I want my butt to hurt because the bones are poking through! I get very discouraged a****ching numbers......so I felt if I had other goals then that of course would mean that the pounds are coming off! I started last year at this time having trouble getting out of a chair....going up and down the steps and weighing 319 pounds. Today I weigh 203 and steps are not a problem neither is the chair and I walk between 3 and 4 miles every night! Life is sooo much better....Oh..I lost about 70 pounds prior to surgery and about 49 since June 1st! I felt like an eighty year old woman and now I don't feel my age at all! I am 51 with #4 grand on the way in September. He will never have known me obese! Sue

Funny how little things like people never knowing you as an obese person make us happy. Good for you! I LOVE your goals. The one about the bathtub cracks me up. And i totally understand. I would like the water to drain without haveing to break the suction the small of my back and fat make on the tub.

I just noticed for some reason my posts have been marked hot. I will watch that in the future. I am not an alarmist and don't feel everything i say is "HOT". I must be pushing something and not realizing it. SORRY!

My primary goal has been focusing on all the tools of WLS. I am keeping a nutritional log where I write down every day what I eat how much what time, How much I drink, supplements, exercise, mood. I only weigh once a week and as long as I am losing and not gaining I am happy. I am trying to form new habits before I return to work on August 15, 2005. For me focusing on following "the rules of the pouch" will bring the weight loss on. joni.6.27.2005 261.241.151 Sample of Colums and Rows of Nutritional Journal Nutrition Journal Name: Joni Denney Date: ___________ TIME Record before and after your meal.
