BY THE WAY I AN NEW AT THIS MESSAGE BOARD
I have not had a drink yet but I have heard that you are suppose to wait a year. I have known people that have and been fine. I did hear that you get really drunk off 1 drink did you? Well hope all goes well for you. Let me know how you felt although I am scared to have a drink myself.
Good luck,
Callie
Happy Happy Birthday
Happy Birthday and I am really looking forward to having a drink. THe clinic where I had my surgery says to wait six months because it slows down the weight loss since it is liquid calories. They made it seem like a drink won't hurt your body (unless it has sugar or carbonation), just not helpful with the wieght loss. But sounds like your progress is great! Friday was my 1 month and I had lost 31 pounds.
Cant help you on the drinks at all......i dont drink.
As far as weight we are all different......i have lost 24 lbs post op and im proly 43 lbs since my JUNE 1st surgery. THE last two weeks i am barely looseing now it slowed down alot. GUESS my body is catching up to the 67 lbs gone.
AND welcome to the board PATTY its a great board for support.
ALL the best

Hi Patricia!
I'm so looking forward to having an alcoholic beverage, but I'm afraid to. My surgeon said to wait 3 months (September). I had my surgery the day before you did. I celebrated my birthday on the 19th without a drink and I still had fun. I think I'm going to wait until September just to make sure. I don't want to risk anything. I heard it takes 3 months before the internal healing is complete and alcohol can damage the new pouch healing. I'm doing my best to wait, but it is good to know you did okay. How did you feel off of that one drink?
My 20th class reunion was 10 days after my surgery and I decided to go, big a@# and all. I'm really glad I went.
I didn't eat the dinner, I ate my soft cottage cheese before I went. At the reunion I did have two small vodka gimlets (vodka and lime juice). I didn't get a buzz but did feel warm and uncomfortable, which is usually how liquor affects me when I'm a bit nervous.
Two weeks ago I had another small vodka gimlet out with friends and MAN did it go straight to my head. I had just finished a workout, and I counted it in my daily calories.
Yours in pounds down,
Jen
Patty,
Welcome to the message board!
I haven't had a drink yet. Before wls, I rarely had a drink. Sometimes I had a glass of red wine with dinner....and on a very rare occassion, a social drink...a MILD one! (mmmmm strawberry margarita....)Sheesh....One beer would get me drunk before wls.
My doc said to wait a year. I'm fine with that. I read that drinking alcohol after wls can really hit ya hard...it's like super absorbed since it goes straight into your lower intestines..... That made me terrified to even think of it.... How did you feel?
Your weight loss is GREAT!
(hugs)
Pam
I have had 2 oz of white wine and I had to get rid of the rest of the glass and drink water. It didn't feel good but I didn't dump. What I have really started to enjoy in a social gathering is a Virgin Mary. I can sip slowly and I enjoy the spicyness.
Please be carefull with alcohol and not make it a habit. I have been reading some posts on other boards how some people have gotten rid of a food problem and picked up an alcohol problem.
Congradulations on your loss and good luck.
Rich
