I had my surgery on 6/28 and by 7/14 I had dropped 23lbs. My doctor told me to start eating solid foods and not pureed foods anymore. That is going okay but I cannot ge****er in. Everytime i drink water I throw up. Even when I use a straw and drink very slowly. I had to pull over off the highway after drinking some water and throw up the other day. WATER IS NOT MY FRIEND and I love to drink it. Please help!! Dawn S.

Dawn I had my surgery the same day as you. You are doing fantastic! I have only lost 19 lbs as of 7/18. I also have trouble getting in my water but thank goodness it settles on my stomach. I just can't seem to get the total amount down since we have to take small swallows. I now have a mug that holds up to 32 oz and am trying to get in at least 2 per day. As the other posting said try Crystal Light. I use the lemonade one and also the grapefriut favor. They are great. I also get the travel size but I use them in a 20oz bottle of water instead of the 16oz they recommend. I do not like them so strong as they taste to sweet for me. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

I have had better luck with chewing ice. I know that not everyone can handle the sound but it works for me. I was told not to use a straw because it create air pockets and can make you sick. If you can't chew the ice maybe just suck on it. As far as crystal light is concerned, I started to hurt really bad from the citric acid and had to back off because it was the only think I was drinking when I got home from the hospital. I now have about 8oz a day and it breaks up the monotony of the water all day. Good luck and congrats on 23 lbs!!!!! Kate

My surgery was June 1st and I had trouble drinking water the first 9 days. Sipping water was difficult physically as well as REMEMBERING to drink sips every 10 minutes. I even researched a watch that would vibrate every ten minutes to remind me to drink. (You know you can become verydistracted and within 25 or so minutes, you realize you haven't had any water.) By the time I found where I could purchase the watch, my ability to swallow improved as well as the ability to remember every 10 minutes. Now, I can drink much more than sips and must remind myself not to consume too much water at a time. (ps: I put lemon and lime in my water to get rid of that "metalic" taste some water can have-even "purified" waters.)

My biggest problem is forgetting to drink it often..I use the Crystal Lite and get Isopure Protein Drink and mix them. That way I get protein and fluid at the same time. I was also told not to use a straw because of all the air you can get in your pouch..
