What is for breakfast???
Good Morning all! Just wondering what's for breakfast? I am having some oatmeal. I tried egg whites yesterday but they sit in my pouch really hard. My pouch felt like I had a rock in there. Not good!
When do you get your protein in? Do you drink it for breakfast or lunch or do you do it in between? I need some ideas because I am having a hard time trying to fit it all in.
Have a great day!

Hi Shelley,
I am 5 weeks post op. I also found that I was having a hard time getting everything in. What I have settled on because of my work schedule is to drink my protien shake for breakfast with my morning vitamins. This seems to stay with me until 11:00-12:00. Drinking water all morning, of course, then around 11:30-12:00 I take my midday vitamins wait about a 1/2 hour then try to eat lunch. My problem is with dinner. I tend to drink my 2nd shake around 4:30 p.m. because I need the energy and then when I get home I am not hungry. Any ideas on that one? Even though I am following all the instructions I still feel like I am doing something wrong. Anyways, good luck and let me know if you get any better ideas. Have a GREAT DAY!!

Maybe I will start having my first one for breakfast too. I usually drink the first protein shake around 11:00 and then I am not hungery at lunch time so I end up eating around 1:30 or 2:00 and then I am not hungery until dinner and then I do not get anymore shakes in. I know this is not good and that is why I need to change some things.
How large are your shakes? Maybe you can cut back the amount for your second shake and then have one before bed. My problem is I get so busy when I get home and I never have dinner done before 8:00 and then I go to bed around 9:30 in order to be up by 5:30 am. I never am hungery early in the morning until around 8:30 or 9:00. I think I just need to start forcing myself and do it!
I haven't been dropping the pounds like I thought I would so I think that I am doing something wrong too. I hope things get better soon.

Hi Shelly -
This is my first post to the board. I am one month P.O. today. I from what I have been reading have been very lucky (knock on wood). I get 70oz of water or more in a day without much trouble. I also have been able to get at least 60-80 grams of protien a day pretty easily and I exercise each day (30 min. walk) and have virtually had no pain since I left the hospital. As of today according to my scale I have lost 47.5 pnds, 12 prior to surgery.
I always have a protein shake for breakfast, I use anywhey protein, 17 grams in a scoop I put in a scoop and half. It is TOTALLY unflavored so I can make the shake any flavor I want. I add SF jello powder to it again, anyflavor and mix with milk, water, or yogurt whatever I feel like. I also have added half a bananna, raspberries, and strawberries. I add my chewables (vista vitamins(5) for the day) and my prescription for gall bladder stuff all in one and 3 ice cubes and mix in my majic bullet. Done in one shot and I have 25.5 from just the protein mix and then if added yogurt or milk it is usually about 35-37 grams! Remember your body can only handle 30 grams of protien at a time.
I then have reg. lunch cold cuts w/ cheese very small chewed to a pulp, or chicken, shrimp, or tuna pureed with mayo & onion powder. I also eat half a yogurt Atikins (6oz) no sugar, and 12 grams of protien. I finish off the other half late afternoon (3:00ish)
I have just recently started adding another protein drink in the afternoon, it is a scoop of Nectar's Roadside Lemonade (23G) with Crystal lite pink lemonade 10oz., it's pretty good. Now I know I have my basic 60 grams covered and whatever food I eat is just a bonus!
Thats all I can offer, hope it helps. I will say the anywhey powder is great since you can add it to virtually anything and it doesn't alter the taste. I tried it with soup and wasn't crazy about that, but I do make SF pudding and add 4 scoops so I get about 12 grams of protein a serving and I have added it to cottage cheese, ricotta cheese too.
I am still on pureed or diced for another week and half. Last night I tried some pasta (very, very little) to see if I would react and didn't. I would like to try peanut butter but I'm a bit afraid, taking it slow, one food at a time.
Sorry to be so long.
Good Luck! We are all in this together!

Hi Shelley;
My favorite breakfast lately has been an omlet with Egg Beaters. I will add shredded cheese and just a few bacon bits then a tablespoon of mild salsa. This morning I also added a splash of soy milk for added protein since now I am lactose intolerant. After I place it on my plate I will add another Tbsp of salsa. I was really worried the first time I tried it by only taking a few small bites then waiting to see if it hurt. I love the salsa taste now which I didn't really care for pre-op.
I'm still scared of the protein drinks since the first one made me dump with the lactose thing. I have some AdvantEdge protein bars that I snack on during the day. The Cookies and Cream are really good. Even my 10 year old daughter likes them.
