What kinds of meats are you trying? Per doc's orders, I have not done red meat yet... it is too difficult for our bodies to digest. Chicken works for me, but I have to cut it into teeny pieces and chew, chew, chew! I have also had some ham, but only very lean, sliced ham. I hope this helps! Nicole 6/7/05 - Lap RNY 312/265/150

I have no problems with anything. However, I would not be to concerned at this point. As it is still early, some doctors wont allow you to eat meat (unless pureed) so soon. If you would like to try turkey or chicken again, try cooking it poached in broth. It comes out very tasty, low in fat & extra juicy. It helps when it is moist to digest it. Also only try a small amount. Does this happen to you with pureed meats too? Good luck to you.

The meats that work for me are the ones packaged like tuna. Besides tuna, there's other fish, ham, chicken...and other stuff I'm sure. They come in both cans and ready to eat packages. I was told to add a little mayo or salad dressing to these meats - - and to leave the bread out. When I try other meats than the above -- I get a tightness in my chest that does not feel good. Best wishes, hang in there...and know that you're not alone. Oh -- for protein (since I am limted on the meats that I can get down), I am drinking protein shakes.

Hi Terri, I just started on meats recently. Before I did my nutritionist told me this tips to help me: 1. no red meat for 3 months 2. only very very moist meat 4. use chicken broth or gravy to soften 5. very small tiny bites 6. chew, chew, chew 7. If reheating in the microwave put a lid half way over container with meat in it. Pour over broth or gravy. This helps to keep the moisture in. 8. Dry meat comes back up 9. some people can't tolerate certain types of meat 10. white meat is easier to tolerate 11. only introduce one to two new foods per day until you know what you can tolerate. The chicken does tend to make me experience some gas problems right now though. 12. I started with white chicken meat softened with chicken broth. I used the chicken from a plain rotissorie (sp?) chicken from the grocery store. I found out that Ingles in my area only uses Pam to season on their traditional rotissorie chicken in the deli. The nutritionist said not to get the other types as they use sugar in the seasoning mix that goes on them. Hope this helps. I am so sorry that you are having a tough time. Don't give up. It is still early and may take a while for you.

Hi, I forgot to mention that the nutritionist told me that by chew, chew, chew she meant to chew each very small bite at least 15 times! and to be sure and take 20-30 minutes to eat each small meal. I usually have not more than 2-3 ounces of chicken at one meal. Hope this helps. Sincerely, LMW

Yesterday was my first day on pureed foods. I put the blended chicken in with some mash potatoes to moisten it. I didn't have any problems.

Don't forget that we all have different plans to follow. I was on pureed foods two days post-op (including meat), and others here go home on full liquids. I think she *is* trying to listen to her doctor. The thing about this surgery is that we have to start learning how to listen to our bodies, too! Nicole 6/7/05 Lap RNY 312/264/150

Hi Dee Depending on our surgeon, I've noticed through reading these postings that we are all on a different nutrition plans even though we had the same surgery. My surgeon and nutritionist's plan for me was: 2 days full liquids 3 weeks puree foods 3 weeks out: solid, regular foods as I can tolerate. Start with lean proteins, then veggies and if I can squeeze it in, a fruit at each of only 3 meals per day. It's important that we all listen to our individual surgeons and nutritionists. Katie
