Is anyone else noticing an increase in allergy symptoms or new allergies?

I have heard of people developing new allergies after surgery...but I really just blew that off because I've never been allergic to anything except latex. But now I wonder.... We use to buy those Whisper air fresheners (you know, the ones that make a little puff) for the house. I never had a problem with them and really couldn't smell them that well. BUT since wls...they smell SOOOOOO strong. We are down to just one now...and AUGH I can't take it. It has got to go. My nose starts running, I start sneezing and the post nasal drip kicks in the moment I walk in the door. Then it stays that way until I've been out of the house for an hour or two. It's making me so nauseous..especially because it's making my pouch (Oscar...lol) slimy and grouchy. Could this be a new allergy, I wonder? Is anyone else having trouble like this. It's making me nuts. I have my next appt with my surgeon next week and I'm going to ask. AND that air freshener is OUTTA HERE...I want to see if that changes anything. Am I the only one having this issue? ((hugs)) Pam

now that you mention it, i had the one that you plug in and once i came home after surgery, i noticed my eyes and throat would itch. i threw it in a junk drawer in the kitchen, but i could still smell it in the dang drawer! i finally threw it in the garbage a couple weeks ago...and still smell that darn smell when i open that drawer! i think we have a stronger sense of smell or something. my nose felt really weird the first couple weeks, almost would get a tingly numb feeling. that has since subsided, but wonder about the allergy thing now that you brought it up. let me know what you find out! hugsssss~mary jo

Thanks, Lisa! Now I feel like less of a stranger...and more like we have officially "met" My sense of smell is on OVERDRIVE...it is making me crazy. Every time I smell something strong, my stomach does flip flops. I wonder how long this will last? ((hugs)) Pam

Pamela- I think we are a lot more sensitive as the other ladies have mentioned. Not sure if it's an allergy or not, but I notice things like that too. Another silly thing I have noticed- I have a 2 year old, and have changed diapers and cleaned up the grossest things for a long time. Today she was running through the sprinkler and decided to poo poo in her swimsuit. Lucky grandma and aunt were over, but when they changed her, I was there and I started gagging and feeling that I would throw up. how wierd, my old stomach was never very picky. Also, I opened up a gallon of miik that had gone bad (that would have never happened with the old me, I would have had it gone first!) and the smell of it sent me right out of the kitchen gagging. I guess it just comes witht the territory. Sorry for being so gross! Stacy

That is very interesting. From day 1 after surgery I have had a runny nose. I look like a heroin addict, always sniffing and wiping my nose! My seasonal allergies on the other hand, have disappeared! No more Flonase! Very weird, huh.

I don't know if it is allergies or just smells. In the hospital they brought me flowers with lillies in them and I thought they were going to make me sick. Has to have my DH take them home. Couldn't wait to clear the house of all the flowers when I did get home. I'm not sure now as we don't have anything in the house that smells. Sara
