HI, I'm Dawn and I just had the Gastric Bypass on June 28th. It is definitely a great lifestyle change. I'm very frustrated sometimes because I can't drink much and I forget to sip and then I feel sick. I feel miserable when I try to eat. I have lost 13 lbs since surgery and not sure if that's god or bad. Please tell me what you guys do to drink enough liquids and get in enough protein throughtout the day. I only get in about 20 oz of liquids per day.

I always have liquid on the table next to my chair and constantly sip. I even put chicken broth in a very small tea pot with a small cup for some reason this helps me sip. I do not leave the house withou****er and try to keep a constant sip going. I had one episode where I was outside in the 100 degree heat and came in the house and drank water too fast-that was no fun. My doctor wants me to drink 74-100 oz. a day. This is really getting harder since I have added the soft foods and have to wait 1 hour before I can drink. I also set a timer to remind me
As far as protein, I was doing quite well when I first got home; I drank shakes every day. Then I ran into some trouble with nausea, and now I could not choke one down if my life depended on it! I am waiting for some Unjury to arrive, and plan to use some of the great recipes I have found for shakes. Someone also posted on the main board about dripless popsicles (s/f jello, unsweetened Kool-Aid, 1 cup cold water, 1 cup ho****er and Splenda to taste) - I'm going to try some unflavored Unjury in there and make protein pops!
As far as liquids go, I recently started sucking on ice cubes. In the heat, it can feel more refreshing, and I think I am more hydrated as a result. I have also been keeping a bottle of water next to my bed at night. Whenever I wake enough to roll over, I reach and grab a sip. Even if it just helps me get in another 1-2 ounces, it is a help!
