2 weeks, little loss
SORRY to hear this has you down. BUT i wouldnt let it get you down. I bet when you were in the hospitol u were up some pounds from all the IV they pump into you.
ALSO the scale is EVIL!!!!! so do use a tape measure and watch the inches melt. I find i go thru loosing spurts but the inches are falling
off big time. STAY CALM KAREN, you have so much swelling and healing going on those first 2 weeks that can add some extra lbs.

I'm having the same problem. I am 1 week out & haven't lost a thing. I did gain 7lbs in the hospital which brought me to 257 & I weighed myself today and it said 250 yeah thats a loss but get this, the morning of the surgery I weighed 251 so really I didn't loose anything. Im getting frustrated, im hungry, bloated I just keep telling myself that it will all be worth it in the end. I hope god keeps me strong enough until then.
Have you heard about "hibernation syndrome"? You're body goes into shock after surgery w/ the drastic reduction in caloric intake. Read about it at http://www.gastricbypassfamily.com/Hibernation.html
I also experienced a slow down in weight loss after leaving the hospital. I cried for a day and did a lot of research on the web, including this site, thinnerself.com, gasticbypassfamily.com, etc. Then I kicked myself in the butt and started walking "for real" at my local YMCA. That, along w/ an increase in fluid intake has jumped started my metabolism so that I'm losing about 1/2 to 1 pound a day.
Don't let depression get a hold of you. Every problem has a solution.
Good luck,

Thank you Jen for posting the link to that article! It really described in detail what is happening to most of us. I am 4 weeks post op, and have been "stuck" at the same weight for over a week. I lost almost 40 pounds, then it just stopped. I was feeling hopeless and depressed- but that article says that around 4-6 weeks out, our bodies will start to use up the fat and we will lose weight again. Thank goodness!

Karen I gained 5 lbs. in the hospital and boy was I glad when it came off which took about a week. I am only 12 days out and now that I have started walking I seem to be losing faster. I have lost 13 lbs. and hope tomorrow it will show more. Tonight it looked like it might because I always weigh more in the evening but this time it showed the same weight. Good luck and don't give up cause you and I along with everyone else will make it.
I gained a whole 12 lbs in the hospital. That didn't make me too happy. All water weight though and it came off pretty quickly. Then I lost another 15 or so more over the next 1.5 weeks. I've been stuck at the same weight for about a week now though and that sucks! I'm less than three weeks out.
Anyway, the same thing happened to me when I was on the liquid protein diet before surgery. I lost about 10 lbs. in the first few days and then nada for the next 2.5 weeks.
At least for me it's not as bad now as it was pre-surgery. Then I was STARVING all the time and not eating much and not losing weight. Now I'm not hungry and not eating much and not losing weight. I think about the few pieces of string cheese, yogurt and carnation instant breakfasts I'm eating a day and I can't believe I'm stuck. What I would have eaten for one meal in a previous life I'm eating in one day and not losing weight!
I'm going to read up on that website and hope that helps me. I'm going to start back at the gym this week, too.
Karen - While I did manage to lose 14lbs the first week, my loss too has slowed to levels I would have been thrilled with before surgery, 2lbs the 2nd week and 3lbs the 3rd wee****ep trying to tell myself that it's all normal for it to be so slow, but like you said, I didn't go through this surgery to only lose 2-3lbs a week! Tomorrow is 4 weeks out, and I go back to work. Here's to hoping our bodies come out of hibernation real soon!!

Hi Karen, I did lose about 14 lbs the first 2 weeks and in the next 4 weeks I have only lost about 6 lbs, very frustrating! I had been wondering if other people are going thru the same thing, so I am glad you posted your question.
I have started to walk more and that seems to help. Also, remember that following the surgery your stomach is very swollen and sore. I had the Lap-Band, too and that will have a slower weight loss than the by-pass, so try not to compare the 2. (I was doing that and was very depressed that I wasn't losing 30/40 lbs a month like a by-pass patient may).
