Has anyone else experienced this??
I am so worried because I am able to eat without any problems. I had always heard that after a few bites a person would be full and sometimes I experience that. The problem is that at times I can eat up to 1/2 cup at a time!! Is that to much; should I be worried? I am not sure how much I should be eatting at one time. I am only a little more than a week out and I don't want to mess anything up. I especially don't want to stretch my new stomach. Help!!!!!
I've seen a lot of similar posts on the main message board. The key this early out is to eat the amount that your doctor told you and no more. My doctor told me 4 Tablespoons and to be careful of things that swell in your pouch (rice, noodles, potatoes, crackers, oatmeal, etc). We should really avoid foods that swell this early out, but if you do eat them, don't eat the full 4 Tablespoons...eat half as much. This early out, you may not be able to "feel" the full sensation....at least, not like you remember it. Some of my first clues were: hiccups, burping, or runny nose...and sometimes I feel like my pouch is overflowing into my throat. I usually measure my food....but sometimes I try to "eyeball" it...and that's usually when I get my clues. What keeps me in line is this: Not only could you stretch your pouch out....but you could suffer staple line failure...and that means another operation. I sure don't want that. So that's my motivation.
Don't know if this helps....but I hope so!

I am 3+ weeks out, & I am in the same boat. I am concerned too. I can tolarate ANYTHING! bread, beef, vegatables, I used to get really full on just a bit, but now I am insatiable again. Just like before surgery, I try to remind myself that this is a tool & not a cure, but I too thought that in the begining you Can't & that would give me time to learn new behaviors. But so far & I am very dissapointed & scared. Good luck to you!
I have read a few of your postings, and I just wanted to make a suggestion to you. If there is a support group where you are, you may want to start attending. If you are unsure, call your doc's office and ask them. My group has several every month. My surgeon is once a month, but the others in the group have them, as well. I wish there was something that I could do to help you. I think you realize that you must stay away from things you are not supposed to be eating. If you live in a household with others, then they need to help you. I am 2 weeks out and on the pureed diet. I just started to slowly add some soft foods to my diet, like soft boiled eggs, small bits of turkey, low-fat gravy with my mashed potatoes (no butter). I know that it is difficult, but we all have to remember that it is mind over matter. If you ever need to chat, please feel free to email me. Good luck you to you! You are a beautiful, strong woman, that took the initative to lose weight. I know you can do this!!!!

Same thing for me. I just had my first post-op at 3 weeks and told my doc I am eating 1/2 cup not 1/4 cup and eating 4-5 times a day not 3 like we were instructed. She said fine but no more than 1/4 cup. My weight loss is right on track. Life if good.
I am a bit disappointed that I don't fill up on less or feel much aversion to food like a lot of people seem to but I guess you get what you get with this surgery. I wouldn't worry too much if I were you. Jus****ch it and don't go crazy and you will be just fine.
I am three weeks post op and I can tolerate almost anything except milk (I just switched to lactose-free milk and am doing better with it.) At my last visit, my dr. said to stay on the full liquids and purees for at least two more weeks. On the 4th of July I cheated and ate a hot dog (no bun) without any problems. I too was worried I was overdoing it.
I find that whenever I do not take in my full amount of liquids I feel very hungry . So try to drink more. It does wonders for me. I will be 3 weeks out on Monday, and I also try to leave a small amt of food on my plate after every meal. So if I measure 1/4 cup I try to leave a couple of bites on my plate or bowl. Then at the 1/2 hour mark I start sipping and after awhile it is meal time again and I am not hungry. I have been very concerned about the hunger issue and I still have not dumped anything. I hope this helps .
