Julie, I had my surgery on June 14, 2005. I know it is very hard to get your protein in but you must find a way. The protein helps aid in weight loss, plus keeps you healthy. They told me if I didn't get my protein in and take my vitamins, that there was a good possibility I could start losing my hair. I also have a hard time getting my protein in, here is a receipe I use. The protein I use is called Designer Whey Protein and they have Chocolate, Natural, Vanilla and Strawberry flavors. I use the Chocolate or Vanilla. I take 2 scoops of the protein (chocolate) 1/2 cup of skim milk, and five ice cubes - put it all in the blender, until well blended and ice cubes are broken into a shake like consistency. Then I pour it in a plastic glass and put it in the freezer for an hour or so, and I eat it kinda frozen. That drink is about 42 grams of protein. The second drink you can do the same thing with the different flavors of protein. I also have a receipe for a vanilla shake - 2 scoops of vanilla protein, 1/2 cup of vanilla yogurt (Lite n Fit Brand), 1/2 cup of skim milk, and blend it up, you can freeze that too. That one would be a little more than 42 grams of protein because of the yogurt. I hope this helps. Oh, by the way, I have only lost 20 lbs. so far. But I find the days I don't get my protein, I either gain a pound or stay the same. I also walk 20 minutes every day! Good Luck!!! Let me know if this works. Lori Machala

You have lost 24 lbs in 2 weeks?! Girl, you need to be celebrating your loss and not making yourself crazy with worry. My program had no protein until I was onto soft food which was just last Friday. Once I was able to eat real food it was pretty easy to get my protein in. My program does not believe in protein drinks or supplements so I am sort of forced to get it all from real food. Well, so far so good. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just do the best you can and it will get better every week.

ME too early on i wasnt really allowed the protein loaded foods so my protein was down. BUT once i was on stage 3, pureed foods i was getting it in. I use carbcoundown CHOCOLATE milk and yogurts for snacks, loaded w/ protein. I love the ready made advant EDGE shakes and i get them cheap at walmart. I get protein in cheese, chicken, hard boiled eggs. And i do manage to get my totals up. i dont have a 4 tablespoon rule mine is 4 ounces of food at a meal. SOMETIMES i go over a little sometimes less. I go by when im full. So far i have not thrown up or dumped anything. ON a day i dont eat so good, i do try to use the NECTAR fuzzy navel to up my protein. FOR the most part i get 70 grams in with 6 mini meals a day as my nutritionist recommends. GOOD LUCK and 24 lbs is wonderful for 2 weeks post op! GOOD LUCK julie lisa

Hi Julie, 24 lbs in two weeks is great. Don't make yourself crazy over the loss of pounds. I get all my protein in and eat 6 1/2 cup meals a day (pudding, yogurt, protein shakes, soup etc) I've only lost 10 lbs in my two weeks. I can't lie and say its not a bummber but the slower we lose the better overall great health we remain. So since I've never had a problem with health in the past I don't want anything to go wrong now and if i lose at this rate until I hit my goal in order to stay healthy then so be it. As far as getting in protein, I try to do the shakes twice a day and I blend them with ice or frozen fruit. The colder they are the better. I also got the cherry syrup protein to mix with my water. Carb control yogurt helps too. Go to the grocery store and start looking really hard at soups and yogurt and other full liquid items that you may like and see which ones have the most protein, less sugar and carbs. It takes trial and error. (I found out I love split pea soup never like it before.) Bottom line, Take a deep breath and calm down and just say what can I do to get that protein in. What foods do I like and start trying things. Hope that helps!

You are doing great! I've only lost 19 since my surg on 6/13. Have you tried the Nectar line of protein? They are fruity, not creamy like shakes. My favorite is the fuzzy navel. I mix a scoop and a half with about 3/4 c water and 1/2 c cruched ice, blend it up to make a yummy fruit smoothie. Doesn't taste like a protein shake at all. You can get the NEctar line from Syntrax at some health food stores or from online sources ( bethsproteinboutique.com or vitalady.com). Both will send yousamples to try. They have apple, berry, lemonade, iced tea, and abundh of other flavors. Good luck!

This email helped me a lot and I was just checking out replys. I want to try the smoothies you were talking about. It's hard for me to get in my protein and enough liquids as well. I try pureed foods but it makes me sick a lot. Thanks for the tip. Dawn Slaughter

Congrads on a 24 lb loss!! I have the same surgery date as you and I have lost to date about 17lbs. I started getting really down about it and then I started adding the numbers if you loss just 10lbs a month you will reach a loss of 100lbs in 10 months, so just think you are 2 1/2 months ahead of schedule. I also feel like it is taking forever to lose , I lost 14lbs the first week and expected to lose another 14 the next and it did not happen. We just have to be patient, also how many diets have you tried with such great results?? Hang in there.

I like you, hated the protein drinks, I had my surgery on June 30th, I have lost 20 lbs and haven't went for my two week check up yet, however, the saving grace for me was when they progressed me to EAS Advant Edge Carb Control shakes, you can buy them at Wal-Mart, they come in a 4 pack and they come in strawberry, vanilla and chocolate. They have 15 grams of protein in each shake, I drink 4 a day, I love the chocolate. Make sure you get carb control if you get them, they are much yummier than the protein drinks! Good Luck to you!!!!I hope I helped.
