I know that we were all informed about the "dumping syndrome" but wondered if anyone had experienced it yet? I made tuna salad on Monday....a pouch of tuna in water, a hard boiled egg, 2 teaspoons of fat free mayo, and 1 tsp of relish. The relish has 5 sugar grams per tablespoon....so a little over 1.5 grams of sugar. It went down okay but about a half hour later.......cramps...runs....upset stomach, head spinning, cold sweats, then hot.......dizzy.....lasted for 3 hours! I gave the dog the rest of the tuna. She seemed to enjoy it! I hope that I never experience that again! Sue

My doctor told me that I am not allowed to have "Fat free" stuff becuase it apparently has a higher sugar content than "Light" stuff. maybe that was the reason? I haven't dumped yet. I'm not looking forward to that day! Stacy

no dumping yet for me either (knock on wood). but that does sound like what i have heard others describe as "dumping". i have had reduced fat mayo and relish in my tuna. have you had eggs prior to that? hugs~mary jo

Mary Jo, Yes, I do eat eggs.....I have a grumpy pouch so there is precious little it likes! Eggs are tolerated best if they are scrambled! Sue

I have had it. I haven't thrown up or had the runs yet.... (thank God!) but my first sign was feeling suddenly hot all over, followed by nausea, heart pounding, paleness, sweating....generally feeling like I have the flu and I just took a little jog. It happened to me on tomato soup, beef stew, yogur****ermelon and philly swirls popsicles. Sometimes it comes on as soon as I swallow...but the watermelon didn't hit me for a half an hour. Then I was miserable. It seems that I can't have over 6 grams of sugar at a time...but fat hasn't been a problem at all. My doc also told me not to cut fat out completely because it can cause gall stones. I believe him too, because I once did a very low fat diet for over a year and ended up with gall stones afterwards. So don't cut fat completely out. You do need some. (just avoid ridiculous amounts of fat...like fried foods). Take care, Pam

I've been pretty lucky with the sugar so far. I have eaten Yoplait light yogurt and even regular apple juice (first week clear liquid only) with no problem. I think you definitly "dumped" but its hard to believe that that little amount of sugar caused it. Yikes! I'm certainly not looking forward to it at all. Glad to hear that you are feeling better. HI SUE... sorry to hear the tuna caused all that but perhaps it was made up to fancy for your pouch. I use the LO FAT HELMANS may (my nutrionist suggests lo/fat) but i dont add releish and an egg. MAYBE it was to much or u ate to much of it. SORRY to hear but try it again later down the road. I eat tuna, mayo and celery chooped in often and im fine. the relish worrys me. I was told to use items with less then 5 grams of sugar in it. I know u didnt put the tablespon size in but who knows. I have had minor the runds on 2 ocasions not sure why but not serious.........once last week and one bout this week. GOOD LUCK LISA

The day after coming home from the hospital I fixed a milk based chicken soup drink with added protein - I can tolerate the milk fine and had added in the protein to other stuff so I thought "why not?" After sipping it for a long time and finishing it I got so tired and fell asleep - for the next couple of hours I was in this sleepy stuper. It was so yucky, I thought maybe I was having a reaction to the meds - but after looking at it I'm convinced that I was "dumping". I had heard that there are lots of different ways to "dump" - now I know it's true. Just thought you might be interested. Penny

I am sorry you went through that experience. I want to thank you for sharing. I have not experienced this yet but have not eaten sugar. I have been tempted with eating something with 2g of sugar. Thanks to you sharing I think I will leave the sugar out of the diet for now.

Joni, My surgeon's office determined that it wasn't sugar that caused it! They said that everyone is different and different things trigger the dumping. Mine was cause by...of all things...the tuna! I ate it again...my mistake..I had it plain and it happened again! So no more tuna for me! Sue
