Hello my fellow June buddies! I just discovered this message board tonight... it is great to be able to talk about things to those that have all had surgery around the same time! I have a question for all of you... how many calories, on average, are you all consuming each day? Also, how many grams of protein per day?? I have been told what types"" of foods to eat.... but not how many calories. I would love hear what you all are eating!!! Many thanks to all of you! Sandy

hey sandy! glad you found us! well, i am supposed to have 60-90g of protein per day, but usually get 60-70. this week i have not been doing as well in that department, been averaging around 50g. funny thing is, i have lost a pound every day this week! calories, prior to this week, i was getting in between 500-600. but again, this week has been a lot less, between 300-400. i know i have to get that back up because i do not want my body to go into starvation mode and start holding onto everything. you may or may not have seen on the main board, i have seen a few people say that their doc's rule is 700cal/70g of protein until goal. my doc never told me that, but sounds like a good rule of thumb! good luck and hugssssss

Hi Sandy, I think that each of us have different amounts of what we can have and can't have. I had my surgery done on the 20 June and I can only have 60 grams of protien and 64 oz. of liquid. I will be on this diet until the 12 July when i go into see the dietition again. Other than the S/F jell-o popsicles yogurt. We can have cream soups. No solid foods for a while. Plus fruit jucie that are 50/50. My Dr. has never said anything about Calories, just the protien drinks should be less tha 10 grams of sugar and less than 5 gms of fat. Hope you enjoy this sight as much as I have. Sandy H

HI SANDY! SO glad you found this wonderful place!!!!!IT is a wonderful support site. As for how many calories i eat i havent montiored calories, my main concern is trying to keep as close to the 70 grams of protein that i can each day and get in all my liquids so i dont dehydrate. I had surgery JUNE 1, I have just been moved to regular foods...i just came off the pureed stage and was eating EGG SALAD, CHICKEN SALAD, TUNA SALAD chopped w/ a mini black and decker chopper and lo fat mayo, refried beans, mashed potatoes, ricotta cheese and mozzerella cheese w/ tomatoe sauce (lo fat cheese of course), soups blended to puree, carb countdown yogurts and smoothies, Advantedge protein shakes, egg drop soup, NECTAR fuzzy naval protein juice, SF fudge pops, SF carnation instant breakfast and SF pudding and JELLO.. just to name some of what i ate the last 2 weeks. LAST night i nibbled some szechuan chicken and ate broccoli tops and teaspoon white rice from chinese takeout. GOSH i ate so much less then pre op chinese takeout dinners. AMAZIN....

Hi Sandy! I also don't focus much on calories but was told (6) 1/2 cup meals daily with 60-80 grams of protein for the day. The dietician gave me a handout that stated that should equal somewhere in the ballpark of 1000 cal a day. It seems like alot but I guess if each meal is about 150 cal or so that would be right. I also just try to focus on the protein and liquids for fear of becoming dehydrated. Hanan

My doctor says 30 grams minimum the first 6 weeks - just worry about the water. Eventually I'm supposed to get 60-80 grams per day. I'm still having a hard time with the 30 because I can't stand the protein drinks- he advises against them due to the possibility of kidney stones. I personally think it would be impossible to get enough without driking the protein. I went ahead and bought some powder this week. Yuck! My doctor tends to be pretty strict though. 1 week clear liquids then 6 weeks full liquids, then pureed. I can't wait till the pureed stage!!! I will never eat cream of chicken soup again. Ha! As for calories, he never said. On good days I average between 200-400. I need to eat more. I think my body is starving. On a positive note, I haven't thrown up yet. :P

Welcome Sandy! I just had the surgery 6 days ago and am I on a full liquid diet for the first 2 weeks. The next 4 weeks I will be on a pureed diet. The doctor said that my calorie minimum should be 500 and maximum should be 800 a day for the first year. I really haven't started counting yet. I am hoping to make it until my 1 week post op check up on Thursday when I let them see my food diary. Then I hope to have a clearer picture of what to do. It seems I lost some memory of what they said in the hospital. All I know is that I look like a pin cushion. Great to have you here! Cindy Lou Who

Hi Sandy, I'm a lap bander so my intake may be a bit different. My doc's requirements are that I intake 100 gm protein a day (based on some ratio they had) and I did a pre op liquid diet for 2 weeks, liquid for the first two weeks after (although I begged the nutritionist and got permission to add full soup and cottage cheese to this after the first week), then last week I went to soft foods. On the liquid I was averaging 800-1000 calories a day. On soft it seems to be 1000-1200. I will stay under 1500 on the full diet. This to me is amazing. I tried for years to stick to an actual 2000 calorie diet and could never do it. My calorie intake before the preop diet was around 3800 calories a day and I still wasn't satisfied. IM SO PSYCHED! Yours in pounds down, Jen
