I just tried Taco Bell's pinto's and cheese today..... YUM!!! It was CHEAP and it came in a little container and it was sooooooooo good! How many grams of protein is in one of those? I ate 3/4 of it and I was STUFFED.

mmmm, now you made me want taco bell! according to the taco bell website, there's 10g protein in the pintos and cheese. 3/4 you ate? wow, i bet you were stuffed! the most i have ate was about 1/3! know what else is really good? i get the spicy chicken taco and eat the chicken off of it. yum yum yum! and 6g protein from the chicken off that! plus i heard you can ask for chicken on top of your pintos and cheese too! last week i got the pintos and cheese and a spicy chicken taco, cost me $2.37! i love it!!!!

Wait a Minute you don't eat the shell do you? I thought that would be a no-no. I am only 8 days out so I suppose refried beans would be to strong as a pureed food.

no way, no shell for me! actually all i eat out of the taco is the spicy chicken. i might ask them next time if i can just buy the chicken alone!

I am amazed how you can eat it! I am still on a soft diet! I am not allowed to have any kind of beans or spices until I am 6 months post-op! I tried tuna yesterday and my pouch didn't like it much! Sue

Wow, 6 months! It never ceases to amaze me how different each doctor's protocol is. I was eating refried beans my second week out. My nutritionist highly recommended it. It is very smooth and creamy...I still chewed it up to be safe. I tried tuna yesterday too....I had to put so much mayo in it to make it moist enough. I still had to chew the dickens out of it. Took me forever to eat a 1/4 cup! My nutritionist told me not to eat peanut butter yet. I don't know why....but I figure it must be a good reason, otherwise, she wouldn't have NAMED it like that....but other docs are okay with it. Isn't that bizarre? I hope you find something that makes your pouch happy. Take care, Pam

I am 11 days post -op and had some of the beans with cheese today without a problem - oooh, it was go so wonderful to drop into Taco Bell with my husband and actually feel "normal" somewhat! I, also, was told that refried beans are a good choice due to high protein.
