Hi I'm Dan. I have been a regular visitor to the website for a long time but this my first time viewing this forum. I had my surgery on Thursday afternoon and got out of the hosp on Saturday evening. I had a really bad time on Friday in the SICU but Saturday was soo much better. I have not had a bad day yet and am wondering when it'll happen. No nausea, getting fluid down and protien shakes has been easy. Belly is a little sore at the incision sites but otherwise I feel pretty normal. Is this all going to come to a screaching halt? Do folks actually go through this w/o problems? The only thing I can report is some insomnia, strange, I have always been a solid sleeper. Any way, It is nice to be able to access so many folks that have gone and are going through the same thing as I. Regards, Dan M

hey dan! i am so glad things are going so well for you!!! my first 5 or 6 days were pretty crappy, due to some nausea and being extremely tired! all i wanted to do was sleep! i don't think it will get any worse for you. i have heard people say they had no problems, so maybe you are one of the lucky ones! congrats and welcome to the losing side!!! hugs~mary jo

Hi Dan! I'm feeling the same way! I put a post on here also below yours. I know what your saying. I have insomnia too I have to take the pain medicine to put me to sleep at night. I have said and asked myself the same questions. We are just a bundle of nerves. You came to the right place. I have had some very nice emails from some positive people. And the key is stay positive. Just like we did before surgery. I never let anything get me down except this! Keep your head up and I'll keep up mine. We will succeed!

Dan, FEEL BLESSED.... Those are my thoughts... I have had several serious complications in the hospital and one since... and I am only 14 days post op... It has been very rough on me.. but I keep my head high and recite my mantra every mornin, and anytime I start to really feel the pain.... "IN THE END, IT WILL HAVE ALL BEEN WORTH IT!" I had so many hopes that I would have an absolutely UNEVENTFULL post op and recovery, and it just wasnt in the cards for me.... But as they say, what dont kill ya, only make ya stronger... it this has.... Paige 6/13/05 375/-25/175

Hi Dan, I had my surgery the same day as yours and I went into very scared. When I woke up I kept looking down my gown to see if I had really had surgery. I had no nausea, no pain.........and I was just so darn happy just to have woken up! I have been feeling really good until yesterday......I sat at the computer too long trying to catch up on my 200+ emails from work. Ha! I was so miserable last night. I go in to see the Dr. today and hope to have my drainage tube removed. That is the site where all my soreness is. I am most grateful that I have had no nausea or throwing up. I sure hope all keeps going this well for both of us! My husband had the Lap Band surgery on March 9th and just breezed through it all and I kept saying ...........well that is too good to be true. So here is to our good and quick healing! Gayle PS..... How long are you taking off from work???

Well thanks for all the replies. Day 6 and I feel better every day. It is almost as if I didn't have this done. In fact, I need to be careful. I am the cook in the house and a couple times I popped something into my mouth that I would normally have not even thought about. I spit it out each time before swallowing it. Maybe a little discomfort is what I need to keep me safe from myself. Seriously, I find myself thinking about this all the time and am happy I did it. I look forward to the days that I can eat 'normal' foods and eating small portions is the greatest effect of this surgery. Some folks think that food is only meant to be fuel for our bodies, some think of it as a place to escape to when they get stressed or depressed. I think of food as both necessary to stay alive but also of one of the great rewards in life. The different flavors and textures of well prepared foods are their own rewards. The key, I believe, is to enjoy on occasion while not abusing. I have abused in my past life - I will not again!
