Hi, I've really enjoyed reading all of your responses. I keep taking notes and learning new things. I can relate to so many of the comments. Especially the "hibernation" thing. That is so cool! I had lap bypass on June 17th and had a samll intra-op leak that was fixed prior to ending the surgery. I had to stay an extra day off anything by mouth after surgery and then was discharged on day #4 after surgery. I did pretty well at home until day #7 after surgery where I had a small skin infection at the drain site. The drain tube was planned to stay in for 2 weeks after surgery but had to be taken out after the first week in the office. Boy - that was painful ..... I'd rather give birth vaginally to qaudruplet monkeys!!! (ha, ha) I thnk my husband's hand was squeezed off during the process. i recommend to anyone waitng to get their drain remoeved to take a pain pill prior to going to the visit. Well, then they put me on 1 antibiotic pill per day x 7 dyas and I feel 100% better. I lost 16 pounds in the first 6 days and I have been afraid to weigh myslef except for when I go to the doctors office. I'm having a problem getting enough protien in dialy. My doctor's diet plan ivnolves 1 week clear liquids prior to surgery then 2 week full liquid diet post op and then 4 weeks pureed diet, etc. My problem is...I don't like the cream soups afer a while, I don't like the protein shakes after a while, I don't like etc. after a while. I tend to enjoy something initially --"this tates great!" and then after the 3rd or 4th serving per day I can't stand the taste of it or the smell! My poor husband is buying anything he can to keep a variety. At this point I'm only drinking V8 juice (with unflavored protein powder mixed in) and hot tea with splenda. HELP!! I also want to know if any of you know where I can get a form for a food diary. I'm not tracking a food journal like I'm supposed to. ... Again, Thanks so much for all of your comments 0 they are great, Sincelerly. Stuck in a liquid dilemmna.....

WELL glad to hear your doing well. LIQUID stage gets boring but you need to shake it up and not eat the same for all three meals! GET SOME sugar free popsicles......( i loved all the variety of flavors) and ix up the day some. Just a recommendation there isnt much u can do at that early stage....i loved broth, egg drop soup and blended up to liquid other healthy choice soups and kept a vareity abotu my day. I also purchased from bariatric. com the NECTAR fuzzy naval drink cause i like it and its loaded w/ protein to help keep my protein high. GOOD LUCK LISA

Hi Lisa, Thanks for the update! I just had 8ounces of pure heaven...It was wonton soup (without the noodles, etc.) Finally I've found something I like (alot). I read your response about the pureed foods of choice and I cannot wait til Friday when I can puree some Wendy's chili! I also like the idea of the pureed ricotta/mozarella and pasta sauce. Thanks for all of your great ideas! Denise

Thanks Dee! I will try that isopure fuzzy navel -I keep hearing about it. I'm also planning to go to the chinese place and try a few soups (without the noodles, etc.) I found a nice web site today called www.calorie-count.com. It is a free website that gives you calorie breakdown as well as protein, carb, sugar, fat etc. breakdown. I was able to look up the hot and sour soup and also wonton. Here is what they listed: Hot & Sour soup 1 cup = 49 cal, 1.6 Fat, 0 chol, 5 Carb, 1 Sugar, 4 Protein -- not bad... The wonton soup was listed as 1 cup = 36 cal, 0.5 Fat, 0 chol, 6 Carb, 1 Fiber, 1 sugar, 1 Protien. Denise )

Alright, what's the deal with my Dr.??? No wonder I am having such a hard time. Here is the diet I'm supposed to follow: week 1: - clear liquids until drain is removed. week 2-6: full liquid diet, consume 30 grams protein week 7-12: soft foods/pureed diet , 60 grams protein week 12-15: soft, low fat foods week 16 on: general low fat foods , 60-80 protein 2 flintstones a day and calcium a little later on. I'm three weeks out with three to go before I can have soft foods. I'd do anything just for an egg right now. Ha! I can only eat mushroom soup for so long. I've been fighting the urge to just suck on a dorito for the spice. I'm sounding a little desperate, huh? I went ahead and bought some Isopure protein powder. My dr. discourages it because of the possibilty of getting kidney stones. However, I've got to find a way to get in the protein. I'd tried some today and didn't like it. I guess I'm going to have to force myself to drink some anyway. Dawn
