Calling all Post-op-pers...How are we???
Today is day 18 in my new life. I'm feeling mighty fine.
The only things I'm really concerned about right now are:
A spot of tenderness just to the right of my belly button.
Will I ever get a day with ALL my vitamins/protein/liquids/food?????
Will I ever feel hungry again?
Will this food adversion last forever??
Will I be able to tolerate solid food when the time comes??
Do I walk enough?
How long do I have to worry about blood clots?
My incision is nearly closed. I walk one mile a day. I feel normal. If I get all of my protein in, I don't get all of my liquids in....and vice versa.
I'm a scale junkie and that will never change. I'm a little discouraged because it just isn't moving like I want it to and that just baffles me. I know, I know....toss the scale. Can't do it.
How is everyone else???
Pam
Hi Pam,
I am a 6/1 person too!
My gut is still tender....my incision is closed and is healing nicely. I do not get in my proteins or liquids that I am supposed to. I do try but not enough hours in the day!
I am still not hungry and am happy that I am not. I am on a soft diet so can tolerate creamed soups.....it takes me about 45 minutes to try and get a hard boiled egg down...I eat about 1/2 and the dog gets the rest.
You are doing much better with walking than I am! My husband has been taking me to the local track and I can do about 1/2 mile before my legs feel like rubber.
I get lightheaded and am very sleepy! I usually take a 2 hour nap!
Vitimans aren't a problem as they have me on a prescription for prenatal chewables and Viactiv so I am not worried about that at all!
My biggest concern is that I have had diarrhea for nearly 2 weeks.....maybe not true diarrhea but am very loose! I go about 6-8 times a day. My surgeon isn't concerned about it...said it is my new system trying to get used to working properly and will be fine down the road!

You are lucky that you only have to take two vitamin supplements! I have to take the following:
5:30 B12 & B1
8:00 Two calcium citrates
12:30 Two chewable multi-vitamins
5:30 Three chewable irons
9:30 Two more calcium citrates
Then I have to get in two protien shakes, meals and 64 oz of water!! It's nearly impossible.
You are also lucky to *go* everyday....I go about once every four days!! I'm curious about what you eat/drink each day....that might help me.

Hi Pam!
Today is day 8 of my new life. I like that phrase! I feel really good, as well.
I had open RNY, and now I really wish I had gone laparoscopic, but my surgeon only does open, so....oh well.
My incision seems to be healing okay, but it oozes and drains all the time - I have to change the dressing about 3-4 times a day now, which is causing the skin around my dressing to be a little irritated with all the tape. Still, it really is just a little - not bad.
I am up and moving around, going to watch my daughter's softball game here in a bit. But I do get worn out very easily and then have to rest for a while after any activity. Guess that's normal, huh?
My doc has my on clear liquids only - No vitamins, no protein, nothing bu****er and gatorade and popsicles and jello, etc. So far, no problem with anything I've tried to ingest.
Can't tell when I'm full.
Seem to be able to take in far more than they said I would be able to, but then I wonder if it's because it is only liquid.
I have lost 10 pounds!!!!!
I lived through the surgery!!!!!
Overall, I can't complain!
Hope all is well with the rest of you!
hi pam! wow you are doing great with walking! i have done 1 mile just once and the next 2 days after that, my legs were killing me! so i usually am between 1/2-3/4 mile.
i had lap and my incisions are pretty much healed. no pain, so that's good. i have been working real hard at getting in my liquids and protein. i usually get 60-70oz of liquids per day and between 50-60g protein. i want to up both of those!
i'm a scale junkie too! my first follow-up appt 8 days out, i had lost 17 lbs. then 2 weeks out i weighed myself and had gained 2 lbs back! now today those 2 lbs are gone, so i am still at 17lbs. slower than i'd like too, but i think as i up my fluids and protein, i will see this weight fall!
glad to hear everyone doing so well! go june bugs!
hugs~mary jo
221/204/120?
carey, everyone is different. personally, i did not have BM for 6 days and now i go usually every 3-4 days. if you are on liquids still, nothing is going to come out if you are barely putting anything in! if you are concerned, you can always call the office and ask! but you are probably fine to wait til tuesday. good luck!
