I'm Home!
Hey everyone,
I made it! Had surgery on June 1st and was released from the hospital June 4th. No complications. Everything seems to have gone according to book.
I wish I were more prepared for the pain. I freaked out in recovery when I woke up because of the pain and the feeling that I was going to vomit. (I've never had surgery before) Once I calmed down, I could manage. I had an awful lot of pain the first few days. The second day was by far, the WORST. I don't know if that's because I overdid it the first day, or if it's like that for everyone. Now, I still have pain but just enough to take percocet at night to get me through. I don't want to scare anyone with the pain - but I wish I understood that more before hand. I still would have done it, but I would have been more prepared.
I walked. I even walked in the recovery room..less than an hour post-op. I'm walking my street at home too.
I'm not hungry! (woo-hoo) I ate ice chips on day one. On day two I had jello/protein/clear broth/water/ice chips. On day three I had cottage cheese & applesauce/pureed chicken & pureed carrots & applesauce/ pureed fish (YUK) & pureed green beans & mashed potatoes. I pureed chicken was amazingly good.
At home, I have continued with cottage cheese, applesauce, pureed chicken, pureed carrots, protein pudding (yummy), Unjury shakes, sugar-free popsicles and lots of water.
The only problems I'm having are: My tummy is still really bloated and sore. I have tons of gas...which I am passing. But I have not had a #2 yet. I really think this will make a huge difference with the discomfort. My other concern is that I started running a fever ranging between 100.2- 100.6 - so I am going to call the doctor's office about it tomorrow morning.
So, there's my experience so far. I'm so happy to be home. I can hardly wait to be fully recovered, losing weight and being engergized!

Hi Pam
I'm with you on the pain. I did not want to mention it but you are braver than me. If more people had spoken about it I would have been more prepared. I also had a hysterectomy so I was familiar with the type of pain but I was not associating it with this surgery because mine was laproscopic. Pain meds. are our best friend, once you get it under control everything else gets a little easier. I had surgery on June 1st also and today is the first day that I feel like I want to ventre away from my front door and my bed. It gets better. And yeah, that waking up in pain with nausea is really scary. Glad that didn't last too long. I too, got familiar with my push button very quickly but I did have to have a couple of booster shots during the first hour. Hang in there and let's continue this journey together. It's great to have you guys to talk to. Wanda
