June 10th!!
Hey Richard! I'm a year post-op and doing great! Immediate post surgery is fairly hazy for me. They kept me well medicated. It was definately uncomfortable but manageable and I'm a wimp! I was sent home on the 4th day and I remember I was uneasy about the pain meds being enough. I mentioned this to my doctor who ordered a pain patch that stayed on for five days. This was enough to take the edge off and I went home quite comfortable. By the time the patch came off, I was fine with just the oral meds and actually, didn't need a whole lot of that. Bottom line is, don't be afraid to ask!
At home, I slept in a recliner because it made getting up and down easier. I was faithful about my walking. If in doubt, walk! It helps with pain, digestion, just about everything that ails you. It was amazing!
the clear liquid phase was easy since I wasn't at all hungry. I wasn't crazy about the pureed food since my taste buds weren't back to normal yet but that was just a short period and then it was on to soft foods. All in all, my experience wasn't nearly as difficult as I thought it would be. I was not visited by nausea or anything else horrible. By the way, while they were in there, they took out both my gall bladder and my appendix since both were about to burst and they fixed a hernia! I got a complete tune-up but it did make for a little more soreness initially.
I'm just about at goal now and feel terrific. I can eat just about anything but have no desire to overdo it. I'd do it again in a heartbeat!
Good luck to you!
